223 with some distance

I am going to try my .223 at some distance. What is a good Bullet to try? I am not shooting competition just targets and paper. I have a 1-9 twist barrel. I have some Sierra fb 63grain lead nose bullets that were freebies. I figured they may not be my best bet though. Any suggestions? My gun loves 40 & 52 Varmint fb h/p Bergers.

IT WILL LIKE 68GR BTHP MATCH HORNADY'S AND 75GR BTHP MATCH HORNADY I HAVE A SAVAGE TACTICAL 223 1/9 THATS SHOOTS BOTH OF THESE BULLETS VERY WELL !!!!!! AND THESE BULLET ARE REASONABLE PRICED

I have 2 factory 9 twists. I shoot both at 600 regularly. One has a longer throat and shoots the Berger 70 vld like a dream. The other is my varmint rifle that I shoot 53 vmax at just under 3400 fps which gets the job done.

Are you shooting an AR or a bolt gun? My AR with a 1:9 twist will not stabilize the 75 amax or the 77SMK. YMMV but I would stick with the 68-69-70gr maybe the TMK for a little more BC.

The 75 Amax are iffy in a 1-9" barrel. 3,135 isn't doable in a saami .223 and is most likely a typo.

Pass on the 68 grainers and go right to the 75 hpbt's as they are good to go in a 1-9". The 68's just don't splash as good on the misses.

Hot Damn! I stand corrected. How long is the barrel?

I'm gonna have to play with some of that in my Ackley's.

I'm on the 6th firing on 50 cases. cci450/ 25.25gr xbr8208/.175"fb

Barrel length aside, note the 0.175" FB, 0.006" greater than that cut by PT&G's 223ISSF reamer which is designed for 90gn match projectiles. Freebore is a crucial factor in the long-range 223 and those with say a Wylde (or any factory rifle) chamber simply won't get up to this level of velocities within safe pressures.

FWIW, the 75 at this MV generates 1,637 ft/lb ME. A useful way of finding comparable MVs for different weight bullets is to see what MVs produce the same ME. With 30-inch barrel FTR 223 rifles chambered with the ISSF 0.169" FB chamber, 2,825-2,850 fps is the norm with 90gn bullets without overtaxing the brass. The comparable MV for this bullet weight (ie producing ~1,640 ft/lb) is 2,860 fps and therefore in line with that seen with the AMAX.

I'm not, I'm right in the lands.
The Kiff Iss reamer with the ".169" free bore ought to work out good with these also.I have been wanting to build me a good coyote killer for awhile can you magazine feed these or they single fed?
