.223 chamber cleaning(bolt action)

bolt action
How hard do you eject? Have you tried a soft eject into your hand to see if it is still there? The reason is it really looks just like the dents I see with my gas guns. Plus it seems like a pretty significant dent and for that to happen you really have to have a pretty big piece in your chamber which is unlikely or at least should give you a significant scratch up barrel of that area and make chambering difficult?

... there is a good chance that it has nothing to do with the chamber ...

I've likewise seen similar dents in cases that strike parts of the action when ejecting from a bolt action rifle.
Try opening the action s-l-o-w-l-y after a shot, without ejecting the case, and lift the case out.

now that i think about that seems right,i bet its when im ejecting the brass, thank you to all you guys for your help

It's not in your chamber . It's after it's been fired , the area around the dent is what gives it away , it's from extraction or ejection !

I would vote for ejection issue also. If it was in the chamber, you would notice it on extraction and there would be a longitudinal scratch on the case from extraction.

Happens frequently on short action 700's. Heavy ejector spring lifts case right up into the top of the action when ejecting case. Happened all the time on my 257 Roberts. Lighter ejector spring fixed it.

Fired a round this morning ,then slowly ejected it,no mark on brass
Thank you ,all of you guys!!!!

Anyone vote for a bore scope inspection?

If one is readily available, and not expensive to avail of, sure. Why not?

I just received a Lyman Borecam that I ordered back in July. ~$250 and works great for getting a close look at stuff like this.

Sure beats having to fork out three times as much for a borescope you have to bend over and put your eye to an eyepiece on AND doesn't take pictures unless you buy an expensive adapter for your camera.

With the Lyman you just touch the "Capture" button and it stores a nice clear image on a removable SD card. One can keep a record of each rifle on separate SD cards as well as recording throat erosion and other wear in the barrel. Just rename and date each image as you view them on your PC.

Another thing I discovered is that it can be used with a "Power Bank" (rechargable li-ion battery pack used to charge cell phones when away from "the grid". Great for use at the range.

Glad to be of help. Now if you can figure out where it is hitting, you can put that black calking I was telling you about and avoid it all together. BTW, some of that dent comes out when you FL resize your brass.
