223 brass, how to separate ?

for those with low standards. or large targets.
JUST as savage mag fed stock rifles are good, but not great
i do TARGET shooting as in SMALL GROUPS.
I USE TO BUY 223/556 BY THE LB IN 5 GALLON BUCKETS.
IT IS GREAT FOR ITS intended use...2moa ar15/m16 but it is not GROUP TARGET QUALITY AS IT COMES.
Thats funny, my standards are low.
I guess I'm just in the basket of deplorable group.

I shoot LC and FC in bolt guns. The AR gets the left overs. I will have to say who ever says its not possible to shoot tight groups with LC just never found "that load" for the rifle. I have one that shoots under .25 at hundred yards consistently. I have taken it to 525 and shot a 2 inch group several times. Was all done with a 50gr nosler varmint bullet also. Some rifles just perform, other do ok.

savage makes some target rifles but their std across the counter aint one of them. i owned a ton of savages and sold all but one production rifle and 2 of the single shot target rifles.
My Savage B-Mag 17 WSM, across the counter production rifle, seems to be reasonably accurate, I don't think I'll be getting rid of it soon. Sage rats HATE IT!

LC in a single year tends to be close, not necessarily from one year to the next. I did suggest sorting by year, and if you want it even more accurate, weight them. It really depends on if he's shooting benchrest matches or shooting varmints at 100 yards, etc.
There's a lot of variables in loading and shooting that affect how well a person shoots and measured accuracy, most are more important than having brass all weigh the same. YMMV
well just to confuse the issue. not all lc brass is head stamped when made. it can be head stamped 22 when made in 21 and the rest of 22 is not even close to the early marked 22
he was asking how to get better, shooting random lc brass is not an answer

With brass from numerous firearms/AR's, you may encounter some case's that wouldn't quite size properly/consistent with the majority. You will have options- recycling the odd balls. Body die or small base die. With range brass I recycle brass that my FL die doesn't play well with.

Mmmm. Disagree.
With LC brass from the same head stamped year through an ar with a match grade barrel [upper receiver face squared, barrel extension bedded], many of us get guns with .6 MOA +/- a couple tenths.
Not benchrest accuracy, but far better than any 2 MOA.

Any idea if these Frontier stamped cases are LC or Hornady? These were a range pickup, figured they were Hornady made, but they do have a ring-crimp on the primers. I got these at least 2-3 years ago.

Those are like what I have they had the small dots like LC brass has.

I was told that the Federal "FC" brass that has the small round dimples on the case head was made by Lake City, as opposed to the regular "FC" brass without dimples.
There's a world of difference in the two types, with the Lake City being superior.

I believe the management of the Lake City plant (or plants) has recently changed from Federal to possibly Winchester? If that's the case, things have changed. This would have taken place in the past couple of years.

First of all, I don't know.

But I had been under the impression that Federal ran the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for some length of time in the recent past. But just now, researching it and starting with Wikipedia (yeah I know) and looking at the references, one reference lays out the following;

Three contractors have operated the plant. Remington, 1941-1985. Olin Corp.-Winchester Group, 1985-1999. Alliant Tech Systems (ATK, now Orbital ATK) 1999 - (this undated document says “1999-present”).

and then another reference dated Oct. 1, 2020 states Olin Winchester LLC assumed full management and operation of the plant.

Links below. I've seen a couple other sources while searching that support the same info.

So it seems to me now that Federal never ran the plant. Hmm.
