That's great to hear. If I go with a 222 I will try posting a wanted ad here and see if I can get any Lapua. If not I was thinking Norma or Starline. never heard a bad thing about the starline.

Starline has been available the last few weeks. There’s a link below. You can still back order it now and in my experience their back orders typically fill pretty fast. I’ve bought quite a few different calibers from them and they fill 1-4 weeks usually. If you build or buy a 222 let me know, send me a PM and I’ll gift you 50 pieces of Lapua to get you started. It really is a fun little cartridge, easy to tune, accurate, lots of powder/primer combos do a good job. I have a few of the old vintage 222s, Sako’s, Krico, Anschutz, Remingtons, my wife shots a little custom for varmint calling, she also has a CZ 527, it’s one of our favorite cartridges. I don’t shoot competition so I’m not much help there. The only problem with your question is that the 6BR is also a fun number, one of each would put a smile on your face, all in good time.

my 8 twist 6BRs shoot pretty well at 100 and 200 with 105s even. they have given me more wind at those distances than i could ever get out of my 223s. im no competitor but there is a reason all the top SRBR competitors use a 6mm
Be aware, that when messing with bushings - NEVER believe the size stamped on the bushing!
If you don't have gauge pins, size some necks and, using a 0.0001" micrometer, measure the actual O.D. produced by the bushing(s). You may think you're increasing/decreasing the sizing, but doing nothing different . . . well, except that you changed the bushing.
For a new .222 Rem. project, I recently purchased a "set" (series) of five bushings at 0.001" intervals: I got three bushing sizes . . . that's why I ordered from two suppliers and two brands, hoping to get the size(s) I wanted.
Before ordering/specifying the new reamer, I opted to purchase some of the Starline brass. I was pleasantly surprised by the uniformity of the neck-wall thickness: the worst, measured across the heel of seated bullets, featured <0.0003" variation, and the majority <0.0002". Using FB .2241" diameter bullets, loaded-round neck diameters ranged between 0.2500" and 0.2503" - just about perfect for a .2520" necked chamber.

RGThe 222 Remington is one of those all-time great cartridges. While I never competed and shot nothing more than a factory Remington 700, sporter weight and even with the limitations of a sporter weight off the shelf rifle, 1/2 moa with tuned reloads was the norm. (IMR 4198, 50 - 52 grain bullets, Remington 7 1/2 primers). For 200 yards and under, use flat base bullets if you can find them.
I cannot comment of the 6BR since I never owned one. However, given your requirements, it's hard to imagine going wrong with the great 222 Remington. I shot one for many years and took a lot of groundhogs and foxes with it. Never found it lacking out to 200 yards. The only concern I would have is the availability of cases.

Not tough at all, the 222 will shoot the aggs better inside 200 yards than the 6BR. If you want to try and beat the 6ppc's that rule short range benchrest, the 222 is a better choice.
The 222 has put a lot of shooters into the Benchrest hall of fame, be it before the appearance of the 6pp. The BR however has never put a single shooter in the NBRSA or IBS short range Benchrest hall of tame that I am aware of.
I own all 3 cartridges, in BR rifles. I just took 3rd place in a group match with the Panda in 222. Shooting against 2 30BR's and 18 6pp's. Only 2 of the ppc's faired better than the 222 in this Benchrest short range for group match.
I would never waste .y time against these very qualified shooters with my 6BR, but if they show up at 400 to 600 yard matches with their ppc or 30BR, they will feel the Rath of the 6BR.
There is a time and place for all 4 of these cartridges, 30BR-short range score. 6ppc-short range group. 222 Rem-short range group. The 6BR only shows DOMINANCE over those three cartridges when you stretch it's legs, and it has proven itself beyond 400 yards In competition.
There are pro's and con's to every cartridge. Today if you want to attack a ppc at shortrange group shooting, the 222 on most days is the better choice. I gave to a .188 agg and a .224, with my lowley .227, for 5 groups @ 100 yards. This is the only match I shoot the 222 in. @ 200 yards or both 100 and 200, I always run with my 6ppc. The 222 is only working @ 200 yards against the ppc in ideal conditions. And ideal conditions, and match day, are double negatives.

If you shoot varmints too I might do the .222 Rem. Otherwise go with the 6mmBR. 6mm bullet holes are easier to see on paper with old eyes, and you may get better barrel life.
And others will disagree, but if you are just using this for local matches I would do an 8-twist. My 6BR 8 twist shoots very low twos even with 105s, and it's very happy with 70- and 80-grainers with high ones (3 shots). The 8 twist will let you shoot 600 yards and the extra RPM is great when shooting lighter bullets at critters.

I was looking at barts, Bibs, or Ammerman myself
Love the triple deuce but I'd do the Br for virtually every reason. But one in particular that may or may not be much of a factor to everyone is resale. A rifle with a 222/223 bolt face is pretty much interesting to a very small crowd of target shooters or a varmint hunter. Where a BR or better yet, ppc/br combo bolt face is of value to all segments. As far as performance, I'd still go with the BR by a little, especially so beyond 100 yards. Coin toss at 100 IMO. That said, there are some pretty spectacular 22 cal bullets out there right now. I'm building a rifle around that bullet..or just did. Actually just a re barrel but you get the point.
All valid points. I always say I'll never sell a rifle or change cartridge, but I always do. Heck I have a repeater action in 308 bolt face that has had 4 different cartridges on it now.
What bullet are you using? If I go 222 I'm looking at barts, but Ammerman is a lot cheaper
