I am not a gunsmith but I know of a least a half-dozen rifleshat have been rechambered from 222 to 223 by doing nothing more than running a 223 reamer into the 222 chamber, in every case it worked fine with no issues. It is easy to Google SAAMI specs and do a comparison of the measurements of the two cartridges.would it be possible to rechamber a 222 to 223 ?
This depends on what degree of accuracy you are willing to accept.I am not a gunsmith but I know of a least a half-dozen rifleshat have been rechambered from 222 to 223 by doing nothing more than running a 223 reamer into the 222 chamber, in every case it worked fine with no issues. As far as rebarreling the 340 you would be money ahead to watch for a sale and pick up a Savage, Rem, or other inexpensive rifle already chambered in 223. Rebarreling will cost more than the cost of a new inexpensivie rifle.
