222 REMINGTON NEW BUILD

I started this 6-10 weeks ago and received several replies..My parts are all on the bench ready to go together..SAKO L-46 action, made in 1977)PAC-NOR 14 twist 22cal. to finish at 24"+ same taper as factory just a little heavier at the muzzle. Chrome moly barrel to be blue gloss as the factory was.One large pile of brass,LAPUA,R-P,Winchester?)dies sets,2).Wood stock that is factory benchrest pattern, wide flat forend,,even found my older Redfield 6400RM 20x scope...I do not have any current load data for newer powders N-133,N-135 ect..Some forum member must shoot the 222Remington..I had forgotten how small the SAKO L-46 action is.Bolt is just over 0.525 in diameter..After my HALL M it looks very small..There was a web site for the 222rem. but can not find it now,,any help ??

Hi, Ive just had my 221 Fireball rechambered to 222AI, only holds a slight bit more powder than 222 Rem. Vhit 135 is too slow for these cases, you can shoot a full case of Vhit 133 put in with a drop tube and you will get the best speeds with Vhit 130. I was out last weekend fire-forming, 21 grains of N130 was giving me 3300fps with a Berger 50g match bullet with a fire-formed case and 23 grains of N133 gave me 3200fps fire-forming. Sorry I can't be more help but as I say I've only shot the rifle once.
Jerry.

BJILEG: Consistant, proven performer over the years in my Sako Hart barreled 1-14 L-46, and a factory Remington 700BDL, also a 1-14 continues to be the Hodgdon recommended load of 22.2 grs. of H322, with any high quality 50 gr. bullet. 21.5 of H322, with the 52 gr. Berger match is also outstanding--- shooting side-by-side with my Shilen barreled 6ppc, the Sako holds its own: 6ppc may "win", but not by much.

I have H322 and 50gr and 52gr match bullets so will load in that direction. So far no one has used the old loads with H4198 that was what we shot a lot of.Thanks

tripledeuce.net is website.
my best load for my Rem. 700 HV 222 is a case full of v-133 using 52 gr. barts...shoots with my LV 6 PPC in mild conditions. v-130 is not available anymore.
My first 222, an early '70's 700 varminter, shot 18.2 gr. of 4198 and 50 gr. SX hornady's extremely well....but this load isn't that great in my current deuce.

I use TAC and Benchmark in my 222. Both work very well with 40-50 grain bullets. I don't shoot anything heavier for the most part. I wish it had a 12 twist and I would! I would never intentionally build a 22 cal rifle with a 14 twist barrel. There are too many good 55 grain polymer tipped bullets that don't shoot worth a hooey in them. I don't understand the manufacturers reluctance to evolve with the bullets!

I am waiting for a new barrel for mine as I type this. I have an 18" barrel now and want to stretch it out to 20" to keep the muzzle blast a little more friendly.

well I'm on my third .222!! i love them! i use mine a lot of pest eradication at night under spotlight and on crows and rabbits during the day. my first centerfire was a sako l461 that had a lot of rounds through it but i learnt to handload with that gun. now i have a CZ527 classic and a sako 75 varmint.,ps 99% of us aussies don't like the new shape of the american-ised 85 and it has caused a drought of the leftover 75's!) anyway like the other guys said a good 50 or 52gr, Ive used nosler BT's, hornady HPBT match, speer TNT, sierra 40gr HP and at the moment some nosler SHOTS 52gr HPBT that were developed for kangaroo culling and i am not sure if you guys can get them. i used to use 20.5-21gr of AR2207,H4198) in my L461. now i use 21.5gr BOTH the CZ and sako just on the lands with the nosler 52gr SHOTS and get 5 shots into .4 with a pencil barrel CZ and .2-.3 in a stock standard sako 75!
