222 Lapua Brass

Couple of weird (to me) pieces of brass.

First pic: bottom piece is right out of the box, untouched. Top piece is noticeably shorter at the shoulder. A lot shorter. Chambered with resistance.

Second pic: top piece is right out of the box, untouched. Bottom piece doesn't look like the shoulder was fully formed and has a pronounced ring at the base of the neck.

I'm sure they will form OK, just curious as to what others have seen and what you think about these two.

Wow, that's crazy. Have never seen that kind of QC problem with Lapua before.

The last lot (LPT00978) of Lapua .222 Rem brass I bought, about a year ago, was fine.

What lot are these pieces from?

If it were me, I'd send these pictures, along with lot number and retailer information, to Lapua and see what they say. My guess is they'd want to know what went sideways with this batch. And hopefully will send you replacements.

Yes, send the pictures along to Lapua with your description. Will you hear a solution, no, probably not. Chances are they are already aware of the problem and it's been fixed so case closed.

Lapua brass is not always the highest quality. They have manufacturing failures and QC failures just like every other manufacturer. Remember when the great uproar occurred over Lapua .223 Rem. brass?

Fortunately, we now have several other manufacturers to make premium, top quality brass. .222 Rem. may be a problem but open the discussion with Lapua to try for a solution.

We sure do.
My experience with Lapua 222 is limited to 20(?) cases I bought a few years ago
My 222 needs neck turning. I found Lapua no better than anyone else’s. In another caliber I found Peterson to be better.
I’m not upset one bit they are no longer shipping to the U S A

any updates?

When you say:
"First pic: bottom piece is right out of the box, untouched."
"Second pic: top piece is right out of the box, untouched."

what prep was done with the adjacent piece before the picture?

as it appears they are NOT "Right out of the box"
but if so, they are clearly defective

OLD thread, but.......... Spoke with Phil, all good. Stuff happens.

No prep done to any of it. Right out of the box, not sure how to say it any other way. Loaded it, shot it, right into the group.

Defective or not, it's still the best.
