221 Fireball re-barrel

I am going to re barrel my Remington 700 221 . Will be using for squirrel shooting -40gr V/max - lil gun powder and Remington brass. I believe the factory barrel is 1-14. Is there a better performing twist rate for this bullet? Any barrel maker recommendations?

if you intend to stay with 50gr or less, which for the 221 case is in my opinion the thing to do - 14twist is all you need, lilgun, rl 7 4198, are goodpowders,

i have a number of 221s and friends that use them pd shooting, they are great 200-300 yd and no recoil, low noise etc.

i use the sierra bk, and blitz with great success.

Hart bbls have been my choice after factory. others will do well also, a good factory bbl with usually shoot <.5 which for shorter distance is not bad at all -

when you rebbl, true the action what ever you do as 722 were early mfg and not as square at the 700s of todays tooling

I replaced my 221 FB rifle barrel with a 20 VarTarg and I haven't regretted it, those 20 cal 40gr Vmax's shoot much flatter the the same weight .224 pills. Gaves ya at least another 100yds, I have no difficulty in shooting the VT out to 400yds and the 20's seem to do better in the wind.

Thank you very much guys. I am finding that the delivery time on the few barrel makers I have contacted is quite long. Gunsmith time is even longer.

Also I have 2 221 fireball in Rem 700 factory barrels and they shoot great Love them for fox and 250-300 PD. Good Luck PM with any questions about Mickey.

Lilja stocks Remington Sendero profile SS in both .204 1-12 twist & .224 1-12 twist. The 12 twist would be a tad fast for the 40 v-Max in your 221 FB, but not really a problem. Otherwise, it looks like a 100 - 120 day wait. Let us know how it works out. Joe
