2nd and 3rd time to the range with a gun that I re -barreled . Shooting 3 shot groups and all differnt loads and fire forming brass . A 221 Fireball Savage with a shot out BR Brux 1:14 barrel . Next time I go I will be shooting 5 shot groups . Shooting 52 gr. Berger bullets . So far I'm happy .

Looks like you’re off to a great start! Might also try the 4198s, H322, RL10x.

I’m surprised the 52 is doing so well in your 1:14 at what is surely a moderate velocity.

You might also check out 35-40 gr class bullets and maybe the 50 TNT. There’s a recipe or two out there for 2400 powder in your Fireball with 40gr projectiles that’s a lot of fun.

Enjoy!

Yes , I plan on shooting 40 gr but I have a ton of 52 bergers that is why I'm shooting them . Yes the 52 gr bullets are a little slow , but right now I'm just shooting paper .

Went shooting again today but I'm cheating ,You can see I only counted 4 shot groups but shot 5 at each target , I just have never been able to get all 5 in the same hole .

Those are looking great. Your targets show how important seating depth is in bring a good group to a great group. If you ever want to part with that barrel, I would be a buyer.

Went shooting today 7/11/22 didn't do as good as the last two times out , shoot a .270 and .363 group . Think my problem was I took 4 guns next time I will only take one gun think I was to busy .

Yep , this is my old Savage #12 with a Rifle Basix trigger and a, old Benchrest Brux 1:14 barrel , 23" barrel , Stock is maple NOT a good looker, I bought from some guy from Hickory NC . Chambered in 221 Fireball and shoots some pretty good 5 shot groups . And now I have a turner coming and we will see what that does . And did away with the Barrel nut .

I have used CFE Black with 40 grain Vmax. Hodgdon in their 2021 Annual Manual lists a load using 40 grain Nosler BT with 20.8 grains max. Velocity with my Vmax was 3700fps average for 10 shots, SD 20 on Magneto Speed chronograph. Accuracy was fair and probably could be improved with tuning. They also list a load using Sierra HPBT 52 grain with 18.6 grains max and a velocity of 3075fps. I worked up to this load using my 52 grain, 7 ogive bullets but did not chronograph. My gun has a 12 twist Krieger barrel. I believe CFE Black was designed for the 300 AAC Blackout which uses the 221 Fireball case necked up to 30 cal.

The .221 is a good one. That green semi-camo thing is a junkyard dog built in late 80's......Sako 461 gunshow scrounged, Apex 14tw from gunshow, beat up cheapo Sako stock from the old Gun List paper, ugly well used paint by me. And surprisingly good Simmons 6.5-20. Seen a lot of use on everything. Pretty one is also Sako, gunshow special I bought for the action and very nice wood, Hart 14tw from classifieds came with Vais brake installled, had it rechambered to .221.

Loads for ugly gun are:
33 Vmax / AA2200 - very nicely accurate but very low BC
40 BalTip / AA2200 or RL7, very accurate, shot gobs of these at 3450, nasty on pd's and groundsquirrels
42 Calhoon /AA2230 - very accurate and explosive, he makes a great bullet
50 BalTip / AA2230 - Not real fast but same accuracy as others.

All of these are working combos in the ugly gun, and happily I found they shoot the same in the fluted barrel which was chambered with my reamer. Both are just a pleasure to use.

Guess I'll have to try some 40 gr Nessler's or 40 gr Blitz King. and see how they do in my gun .

Looks like it's not going to be soon you guys have bought all the 40 gr Blitz King and 40 gr Nosler . I'll just keep looking

I have the Tuner and on my way to the range to tune it . Hope I don't get the biggest disappointment in my life .

Shooting with a tuner . Something I need to talk with a couple guys about . Not bad but I'v shot this gun better than this . We'll see next Monday when I shoot again .
