220 swift

Been kicking around the idea of getting another 220 swift but I'm wanting one in a regular weight barrel and preferably a Ruger M77 or No.1. Everything I've found so far has been the heavy weight barrels and was wondering how rare a regular weight barrel is in a swift? Thanks for any help!

You might try finding one of the Remington Classics when they just did one “classic” cartridge each year. They were sporter barreled.
You don’t see the ones in the Swift come up for sale very often though.
Long live the Swift !

Has a 1 - 14 twist and shoots Hornady 52 hr match in tiny little groups. Was my Coyote rifle for years and went to a 6MM AI or a 22-6MM AI.

I HAD A 220 SWIFT IN A 700 CLASSIC BACK IN THE DAY LIKE A DUMMY I TRADE IT AND BEEN WANTING ANOTHER EVERY SINCE THEY ARE ACATS MEOW FORSURE

I have one in the 700 Classic. It shoots quite well. For prairie dog trips, I prefer a pair of Varmint Stainless Fluted 700s.

One could contact Douglas or Hart and have them duplicate your desired contour and perhaps chamber it as well. First Swift barrel I ever shot was a Douglas I believe. Great shooter too. JME. WD

If you have a M77 or can pick one up at a reasonable price, you can have a smith fit up a new barrel with the taper you prefer, this one is on it's third barrel. By choosing the taper and barrel manufacture that you prefer, kind of makes it more personal. One of my favorite cartridges, have owned one since the late seventies.

Question. Is a Swift considered a medium length action? Reason I ask, I'd found a M77 but it has a synthetic stock and I've got a super nice M77 walnut stock that came off of my .280 and I'm more of a walnut guy then a synthetic guy even though the synthetics probably hold zero better.

Not sure but the length of my swift action is 6 7/8 in. from face to end of bolt. Maybe on of our resident smith's could better answer that question. I'm with ya though Jaytee, the wood is just sexier:).

In my mind you just cant beat a nicely figured piece of walnut!! I bought a M77V in 220 swift about 3 or 4 years ago and the bluing was great but the stock had been a little mistreated. Nothing terrible mind you, just several dings but nothing that couldn't be steamed out. I took it apart and spent several hours on that piece of wood but man did it turn out fantastic!! My favorite rifle in the safe!!

I have about made up my mind to go with the Swift when my 22-250 barrel is toast. Been tossing back and forth on a twist rate.

All real guns are made with wood and blue steel.

Saw a bumper sticker “Chassis rifles have no soul”
