22 Royale ...yes I've created another Monster

Ill also play with the W760 as it seems to like that stuff and she's a truly under appreciated powder.

Howdy ! Enjoy reading your post !

WW760/H414:

I have shot WW760 in my wildcat “ .22-35 Remington “.
Case’ Capacity 49.4gr H2O ( Remington brass ), which seems close to a “ .22 Royale “.

When shooting Hornady .224”cal 55SX, my accuracy/varmint powder charge was 41.2gr
WW760 along w/ FED Large Magnum Rifle Primers. This was not a full-tilt load.
I also briefly tried 41.6gr VV160 along w/ the same primer, under a prototype of Hornady’s .224” cal 55” V”-Max ( those bullets had a boat tail ).

Nowadays, it appears WW760 has been supplanted in effect, by “ 6.5StaBal “.
The latter powder is only 2 “ burn rate “ numbers “ slower “ than WW760.
Hybid 100V’s burn rate lies between the two powders mentioned; above.

I did not extensively shoot 69gr HPBTs ( or others in the 68-69gr at range ) in my 1-14 24” SS Hart, only briefly tested a handful; and thusly have no load data to share.

Best of luck in your endeavor !

Howdy, again ! Thanx for the response !

I just received last week:
My Bartlein 32” SS 1.375” diam 4-groove .224” cal 55SX “ gain twist “ barrel.
It is a straight bull, and right now ( before chambering and finish to final length )
weighs 13lb

I’m going to see if I can coax Hornady’s .224” cal 55SX to 4,000 fps, in preparation for the 2026 groundhogs.

Please do keep us posted, on progress w/ your wildcats !

Now thats a pipe

OK I spent a few hours Working on renovating the kitchen today for the wife as we are nearing the holidays and it's kind of quiet right now so I'm going to take an advantage of this little gap in work .

I Managed to get down there and run three lots with the fire formed cases and the Power Pro 2000 MR and the Hornady 69 Gr ELD VT

WOW these are far different than the 62 gr ELD VT They GROUP !!!

I stepped it up to 43 grains and my average with five shots was 3550 I lost velocity from the
non FF brass that was 3650 fps at 42 gr powder , case capacity grew and pressure dropped
Group was not OK for me at three quarter MOA

So then I bumped it up 45 grains and the group shrank dramatically as the case was filled more with powder and my velocity shot right up to 3800 feet per second average

one shot displayed pressure signs ...so I backed down

Then I decided to back it down 1/2 grain and ran 3 shots with 44.5 grains and averaged 3685 fps
group was a bughole with 3 rounds ... I will stop there and use Alpha brass I have waiting ,
The brass Ive been using is a mixed lot ...

The 69 Gr Hornady ELD VT bullet is a shooter folks .....a whole different animal than the 62 gr

Im using shit brass and various manufacturer just for testing
NOW I know this rifle and cartridge can shoot I will break out my new
boxes of 22 Creed Brass from Alpha and see what I can do

I am neck forming only after initial fire forming with my custom die
and my own .250" bushing .

laying back .030" off the lands to be safe as I'm velocity testing
Now Ill move up to .005" and go with the 44.5 Gr load in the alpha
brass.

With better brass I may attempt to creep back up to 45 grains where I stay right at 3799 fps
and 200 fps above Sierra's top performer with Superformance at 3600 for max load.
with a 69 Gr bullet. Thats DRT sauce right there

What happened to 4K??
With what bullet ?
I will never see 4k with a sixty nine grain

Back when I started this thread, I was playing with the 62 grain e l d v t

I've got a batch of the sixty nines now
I hit thirty eight hundred
And documented it today with a sixty nine grain @ 45 grains of PP 2000 mr.

When I first set out, I used fifty grains with a 62 gr eld vt .
If you want to know the truth, that thing was going over 4k

It had to be .
But I have damaged bolt now as a trophy
And I won't be doing that again

Maybe it's time to realize the 7 twist is not the way to go. And 4000 is just to much for that cartridge.

I shoot a 22-6MM AI and 60gr on down will get 4000 without pushing it. A 50 gr Blitzking is 4350.

Thats all good and fine amigo ...
But I'm not shooting 60 and down ...I'm sticking with 69 gr
my groups are tight and Im just getting started .

The 69 Gr ELD VT is gonna be my recipe for coyote sauce

I have shot 100's of Coyotes with the 50 Gr Blitzking from every angle. When you have multiple animals coming in and the shooting starts and your just shooting to knock them down the Blitzking will do the job.
