22 LR reamer

There is a shooter, gunsmith named Kevin Nevaris who has won national and international matches. Within the last year, he posted either on here or rimfirecentral, com on the subject of reamers. Walt you understated the size of the rabbit hole, the whole herd of elephants could run down it at the same time.

There are reamer designs that work well in repeaters, and match reamers which are better suited to single shot rifles. I've used an EPS reamer from PTG for my Vudoo V22 repeaters with excellent results, but had better, smoother feeding in a RimX repeater with a Win 52D reamer from JGS. When I chambered the barrels for Vudoo V22S single shot BR & smallbore prone rifles, I used a JGS reamer ground to Kevin Nevius' specs, which has a 1.5* leade angle that favors SK/Lapua ammo, while the EPS has a 2* leade that is a bit more forgiving and works well with Eley or Lapua. And that's only three of the dozen or more popular reamer designs that I'm aware of....

So between the EPS and the 52D which performed better as far a accuracy?

Are you asking about the quality of the reamer construction or the design specifications?

if design, not sure it can be called the best. but I have a JGS Nevius reamer and it is great for shooting Lapua

Preferably the reamer specs that everyone is trying to run

With the more I've read on this stuff I was curious about the engraving that goes down the bullet since a few people have brought it up is having more or less good for PRS/NRL type shooting

Not sure if it is the preferred reamer specs. I have had it used on my barrels for the last 7-8 years. it comes down to which you prefer. More bullet engraving or less for me less works great.

What type of shooting are you doing Mr Lee I'm very interested in knowing more about this engraving into the bullet

I designed my 22LR Match reamer for Lapua CenterX and it engraves just barely touching the second driving band on the bullet... I have no issues extracting a live round and it shoots lights out..

I did a full review and barrel testing for the RimX when it first came out with Barrels sent to me from Bartlein, Benchmark, Krieger, Lilja and Green Mountain all chambered with my custom reamer.

The most accurate Barrels shot 6x5 AGG at 100yd in the .4's and .5's (Bartlein and Krieger) with the Krieger edging out the Bartlein barely.. and they shot 10x5 AGG in the .6's

I think @Forum Boss featured my testing at some point if I can find it.

It's not like I've compared the EPS & 52D reamers against each other in the same rifle. I tried using the EPS on a barrel for the RimX, and found that it didn't feed worth a darn, never really got a chance to shoot it with the EPS chamber because of the feeding issue. Knowing that the 52D was .003" larger at the back or base of the chamber, I tried re-cutting the EPS chamber with the larger reamer. It fed a lot better with the larger at the rear 52D re-cut chamber, but accuracy wasn't what I was hoping for. So a couple of days ago, I set that Green Mountain bbl back .800" and re-cut the tenon, which resulted in a completely new chamber, cut from start to finish with the 52D reamer. The bbl is still just over 23" long, and seems to shoot better now than it did with the 'hybrid' (for lack of a better term) chamber. The weather wasn't that nice yesterday afternoon - 12mph wind from 1:00-2:00, temp 48*-50*, but the rifle showed definite improvement over how it shot before. Am looking forward to shooting it again with lighter wind & warmer temps. It sure feeds nice now...

I've used the EPS reamer on three V22 repeaters, as well as on a couple of Shilen ratchet barrels I've installed on CZ 457 actions, and they all feed really well with that chamber. They also shoot really well with the EPS chamber. Unless/until someone shows me a better chamber for use with primarily SK/Lapua ammo in magazine fed repeaters, I'll stick with it. I've not tried the Nevius chamber on a repeater, so can't comment on it in that application.

WINCHESTER 52 D . I’ve got 8 different reamers and keep coming back to the 52d . I start testing about .010 short then lengthen to suit my ammo . The 52 d is a short reamer to begin with , it’ll engrave both bands usually.

0.2250" or 0.2255" body diameter straight for real match ammo such as center-x/midas/x-act or eley team/match/tennex. Then 1.5 or 2.0 degree leade. Take your pick on leade angle. No belt on the reamer then you can decide where to put engraving off of your opinion/testing. Beware these body diameters are not friendly to less than match ammo such as CCI standard or the like because the diameter of the brass of those type cartridges are typically large and will be harder to get into the chamber. There are various other chamber shapes and dimensions out there that will work but the dimensions quoted above are pretty standard in BR chambers today. I prefer Manson brand/made reamers.

I shoot BR club RBA and ARA UL the Nevius reamer is used to provide 0.030-0.040 engraving. I also measure the OAL of the ammo knowing both the engraving length and AOL I can find which OAL shoots the best and also learn why fliers occur. IMO more engraving makes the barrel more lot sensitive.
