22 LR for match shooting

If you are going .22 LR bench rest, then a true bench rest stock is the norm, I have a McMillan Edge on both my center fire and my .22 LR bench guns. My thought is to take what I learn from one and apply to the other. So far I have a real flat learning curve ;-(.

Please forgive my question, but are you offering your rifle for sale, or asking if it qualifies for Benchrest or Rimfire Competition? In either case, some folks who shoot Rimfire do it for fun while shooting at empty cans, squirrels or anything they can find laying around. Others shoot Rimfire Rifles for accuracy and competition. Now the competition group is probably broken up into several groups with some competition being held at local Gun Clubs on a sceduled basis where the winner gets to brag until the next meeting for fun. Then you get into a group that has a strong yearning for putting 10 rounds through the same hole at 50 yds (or even 100 yds) and now that takes some doing. Basically, one has no chance of even competing seriously if he or she doesn't have the basic equipment that is on an even keel with everyone else on the firing line. Equipment is only one hald of the game while the shooter needs to possess similar capabilities as do the other shooters or the guys is just shooting round for the hell of it. For instance, I own various Rimfires that give me great pleasure to shoot alongside my sons, daughters and grandchildren. But I'm not about to even sit down to a bench on the firing line where the other shooters are unpacking their custom rigs, their various model Anschutz and some of the more acclaimed Rimfire Rifles that are know to be capable of shooting 10 shot groups that measure in the .200 and below target after target. You'll note that Cort mentioned his McMIllan Edge stock that is a "Benchrest" stock that usually sells for about $500. Now mind you, thats just a nice Benchrest stock that hasn't been completely finished, bedded no pilar, or completely inletted with the final touches for a specific rifle. Remember my "fun" Rimfires, not a one costs as much as that McMillan stock that mostly likely everyone else on the firing line has on their rifles. Now I'm not snob and don't necessarily push products per se. But there are certain brand of Rimfire accessories and rifle parts that are know to be proven winner, just like looking at a luxury car and knowing not to try to compare a Suziki to a Lexus sports utility vehicle. Oh you can get from point A to point B alright in the Suzuki, but the quality of the ride just won't be the same. I guess my point is I'd be happy to match a Win 52D to one of my Savage Rimfires, but I wouldn't even try to compare either of my Savages (both shoot very well and accurately) to my Anschutz that repeatedly outshoots any Savages it has competed against whether I was the shooter or any of my friend's who have used it.
Again, please don't think I'm speaking negatively about yours and any other person's rifles. I am merely comparing quality with quality because every shooter is looking for any edge possible to take that first place title. If you enter a game at a disadvantage which you cannot control, you've already conceded a defeat. Thats why I don't compete against anyone but myself because I darn well know there are alot of better shooters than I am, even after having shot rifles for more than 50 years of alot of good fun. I own a MT Guns Martini International Mk III (the only model with a free floating barrel. MT Guns re barreled it and added a Hoehn tuner before I got it. It is the best shooting 22LR rifle I have ever owned and I have owned a number of expensive 22 LR's over the years. The barrel is a 3 groove Benchmark SS barrel with a 16.5:1 twist.
I also own a a MT Guns Anschutz 54 with the same barrel and tuner. Although it shoots great, it does not shoot as well as the Martini.

Here I was trying to make a comparison between a Suzuki and a Lexus and you come along a drop in a Ferrari...hmmm, not fair. But that rifle is definitely a beauty. One of my shooting partners has one and I don't even bother to try to shoot against him as I can atest first hand how nicely and accurately a Martini, such as your's, shoots. It was seeing that rifle shoot "free recoil" that made me a believer of just how accurately a finely tuned Rimfire Rifle can shoot. Over the years, it's been my pleasure to see several different Rimfires shoot in the hands of very capable marksman and none have produced the results of those Martini's. They are a "keeper" in the true meaning of the word.

An Anschutz 1411 would probably be your best bet. MT guns should have them. I found this one for around $900
Any older anschutz should work however, I found this 1408 for $750
However, a Martini is an excellent choice also, I found this one collecting dust in an old gunshop, and picked it up for $300 out the door.

I second the idea of contacting MT guns--I recently ordered a BSA Martini Intl MK II from them. Look for a later 60's or early 70's Anschutz 1411 based on the 54 action they can be found on GB for $700-800 quite frequently--or you could look at an earlier 1411, but mounting a scope on it has some challenges -- but they are relatively easy to overcome.
As mentioned earlier the Kimber 82G or the H&R Mod 12 are other possibilities and can be found in the $500-700 range.
The CZ 452 or 455Lux or varmit models will also do you well for $300-500.

Anschutz 54 match of one type or another, as long as it includes the 5018 Trigger. Mine is an Anschutz 54.18 MS R. No better repeater .22 made under $5000....maybe no better made at all..

Thanks, Dennis. I feel pretty okay about that level of performance.
I know the BR crowd can shave some off that with rests and benches and upgraded (tighter) bore rifles with true EPS chambers...and I could too, if so inclined...but that's not too bad for a factory barreled action.
For a point of reference, the same rifle with Eley Yellow Box "Target" shoots into solidly 0.400-0.475 MOA when tuned. At $5-7 per box, it is a lot cheaper way to "quick tune" the rifle before moving to your lots of Black Match or Tenex Red.
I'll need to take the rifle further out toward 300 to really see how much vertical I'm really tuning out. It gets pretty horrendous anywhere beyond about 215 yards in my rifle.

I found a H&R Model 12 in nice shape and very resonable price at a local gun show. Might be you will have some luck frequenting gun shows in your area.
Shooting 100/200 yard matches with 22LR is a real hoot. A couple things to consider after you get your rifle is.....make sure your scope has enough elevation for 200 yard shots with the 22 LR and consistant repeatablity from 100/200 yard settings which you'll need during matches. I was truly amazed at the trajectory out to 200 yards. Burris makes the Z rings with inserts which a lot of shooter use to get the extra MOA.
You'll have fun with this type shooting....I guantee it.
