22 GT

I've got a 22 arc that I am not happy with. I've been shooting 22 creeds and thought I'd build the arc and give it a try.

The rifle is a curtis scout, x-caliber carbon barrel with 7 twist. Stock is an AG alpine hunter. I do all my own chambering and have a 22 creed reamer but I like to try new things.

What I thought about doing is getting another bolt, rechamering the barrel to 22GT and running the 62 eld-vt.

But I want 3400-3500 FPS. Has anyone done this combo?

Waiting on my reamers.

No I havent tested that combo but getting to that speed with a 62 ELD-VT in 22GT wont be a problem.

Max Ive tested in my 22GT Alpha brass from my 28" Bartlein 1-7.5 was 3300 with 34.6gr IMR 4166 under a 85.5 Berger.... I was pressure testing IMR 4166 in 22GT and while this is a hot charge, I didnt have ejector marks or blown primers... So you shouldnt have any issues getting a 62gr to 3400 or higher...

We are running the 22bra at 3500 with the 62 eldvt and that is a fireforming load.

A 22gt would be coasting to hit those numbers I would think.

What do you not like about the 22 arc?

It's not as flat as I like. 200 yards is 2" low and at 300 its 6" low. Yes I can dial it but we hunt mostly at night and there just isnt time to range. I shot a double saturday and they both took the dirt nap so it isnt the killing capability. I'd make someone a pretty good deal on the barreled action with no trigger. $1900 plus freight. Curtis action and x caliber carbon barrel. 7 twist and 20" long.

I’ve done a little testing with the 62’s in a 24” 22GT. I don’t have my notes with me but I believe about 3650 avg fps is where they were shooting best for me.

Your right. Speed kills. Especially in the dark

Not knocking your choice of actions, but when I built a 22 Grinch, I used a Zermatt Origin, not just because of the reasonable cost, but also because I knew that if the Grinch didn't tickle my fancy, I could get another bolt head and switch over to something like the 22GT.

Why aren't you running a 200 zero?
