22 Grendel Question

ST42

Silver $$ Contributor
Hi Guys,
I just picked up a 22 Grendel AR15 upper built by Baldwin. Is there any reason that I cannot use 22 PPC brass as a starting point for my load development? I have 500 rounds of it, and it seems that it should be a bit easier than forming 6.5 Grendel brass.

Thanks,
ST42

The base to shoulder length on the PPC is shorter than the Grendel so you would have to create a false shoulder and fireform and the overall length of the brass is a little shorter.1.505 vs 1.520

Find some good 6.5 Grendel Brass and use your 22 PPC sizing die to form your brass. Screw the die out to where you need the shoulder to be.

If you have the extra primers and bullets to fireform, I would say go for it. Otherwise, I would use 6.5 Grendel brass (if you can find it!!) to make your 22 Grendel

Don't know what bullet you are planning to shoot and this is just my opinion but if you plan to shoot the heavies, 80gr and above, you may want that little bit of extra length on the neck that you get with Grendel brass.

Thanks gentlemen. I plan on running 77’s and 80.5’s. I have an adjustable gas block, so I am thinking of shutting off the gas and giving it a go.
