thoughts on this for a long range ground hog round .what would you choose

I'm not a creedmoor fanboy but I would pick the 22 Creedmoor solely because of the brass availability and popularity of the round.

Not that It can do anything the Clark can't, just solely based on brass availability

Agree.. I'd go with a 22-250 ackley before I put a creed in my hands..

If you want speed in a .22 wildcat, a straight 22-243 is crazy simple and pretty quick…and lots of good brass choices too.

If it was my choice I’d go with a 6 SLR. Another easy to form wildcat but better barrel life and better bullet choices…

22-243 is nice but it falls along lines of over bore. unless you pushing heavy bullets through it.

The 22 Creed is getting out dated. LOL. Better choices now.

Others that will get you the speed and maybe a bit more barrel life.
The 6mm's with get it done with light bullets and a bit more barrel life.

If you want one of those two, then go for it. Then you can say you did it.
Been there done that. Learned a lot. I will never go back to the 22 Creed myself.

But between those 2, the 22 Creed would be the easy button.
Good brass and info on loads.

I’m building a 22CM now, it will find a place in my rack next to a handful of 22-250s and Swifts. It’s near the top of useable case capacity and top quality cases are available, no fire forming necessary.

I wanted a new build to do this spring, just had a 22-250 ackley barreled last fall and decided on building another one. LOL Did some research on 22 creed and even looked for a donor rifle chambered in one, not much there on what I wanted. Nephew had a 6.5 creed and sold his he didn't like his much. maybe they good for paper and deer.

Few things to consider. Are you building this on a short action and what weight/s bullets do you intend to shoot? Based on you 're asking about these for LR ground hog shooting is it safe to assume your intend on shooting the 75+ grain bullets?

The 224 Clark has a some case capacity advantage over the 22CM but if you were to build both on a standard short action depending on the particular action you use and what aftermarket longer magazine boxes are available for the action you use if you use it as a repeater and don't single feed the rounds the case capacity of the Clark gets neutralized because you'll have to seat the bullets deeper in the case to get them to feed through the magazine. I have a 224 TTH which is a near twin to the 224 Clark that is built on a SA Rem 700 and I had to install a Wyatt's 3.0 mag box to use it as a repeater and that was with 75gr Berger's the 80-80+ grain bullets are even longer. If you build one on a SA Rem 700 you could have a 3.100 Baney mag box installed but it'll require a little bit of machine work to the action. Either building one on a medium custom action or probably the most cost effective would be to find a Tikka 270 or 30-06 and use it as a donor action.

For me the two biggest advantages for a 22CM over the 224 Clark or TTH would be brass quality and useable actions definitely favor the 22 Creed. If you want more velocity then a 22CM I'd look at either the 22-243 or one of the many different versions of 22-243 Improved. I have my gunsmiths version of a 22-243 improved that's built on a SA Rem 700 w/3.00 Wyatt's mag box and I'm shooting ELD-M 80's 3650.

i got a stolle action but may use a 700 short and a number 6 barrel contour at 26 inch long.the 60 to 75 grain will work fine and looking at a 1 in 12 twist or a 1 in 10 twist.
