I've stumbled across maybe 100 or more cases of this made from Lapua 6BR brass. Who was behind this experiment? Anyone have experience with one or something similar?

A 6mm TallDog was a replacement for 6 ppc when brass was not available.
I think most were .080" shorter than a BR??
Fred Hasacuster is the primary name I hear most frequently as the father of the cartridge.... but I do not know that to be a fact.
Maybe somebody necked some TallDogs down to 22?

I believe Randy Robinette started a 22 BR Short .200" called the 22 Idiot Mag a/k/a 22 SBR (Short Benchrest).
And I believe George Ulrich had a hand in the 22 BR Short .250"
The 22 BR Short .100" has been referred to as a 22 BRAT, and the 22 BR Short .150" is the 22 Small Dog by Ron Roberts in early 1990's.

True, but you had to have a finger transplant from a three year old child to get ahold of that short little thing. But they did shoot pretty good.

The.22BR minus 0.200-0.250" are great cartridges - just more work than most enjoy . . . "back in the day",
most of us WERE experimenters. Still, most of the usable experimenting had been accomplished - excluding the war years - between 1900 and 1947. After about '47, "things (particularly bullets) got better."

I've developed a 22-250 / -.250" short
Lot of work, but it turned out to be worth it
I took a good shooting 22-250 Hart barreled rifle and used it to experiment on
this was my version of a "Poor Man's 22 PPC"
effectively duplicating the case capacity (approx 30 grns of ball)
Poor mans, because you can use a .473 Boltface, not need anything custom or special
run the 22-250 reamer in short, trim the FL die down, trim the base of the brass smaller
take about 5 steps to form the brass
But my gosh is it an accurate no recoil pleasure to shoot.
and slightly longer so easier to pick up and handle than a 22 BR short
About same length as a 7.62x39 case
I already have 22 BR's and wanted to see if I could come up with something to compete next to
a 22 PPC, but without having to use custom anything.
It worked. So well in fact I took one of my good shooting 22 BR's and rechambered it for my 22-250 Short
Just something fun to play with ya know.

What velocity would you run the Curdog at?
My WalDog really likes 3520-3530 ish with 52gr Bib's.

With certainty, I cannot say - seldom chronograph the point-blank stuff - probably about 3250-3300 FPS.
Best load was 26.0 Gr./Brigadier 3032/CCI BR-4/52Gr. FB. At one time, I had 120 Lb (15 eight # jugs) of the 3032 . . . down to only about 1/2 jug.
I may chronograph the .220x30* Russian - it's WalDog capacity, without the forming . . .
Gene Beggs' 22Beggs is a somewhat more user friendly .220 Russian, as he tweaked the radiuses at both body:shoulder and shoulder:neck and reduced the case lengthening issue. RG
