Worth kicking back to the top of the pile, here, but yes, the new Lapua 22-250 brass will be introduced at the SHOT show in Las Vegas. There's also a new plastic box (Lapua Blue, naturally) that the brass comes in. Cool feature here is that it has a plate inside the lid that can be relocated to form a shelf, converting the shipping box into a 50-round cartridge box for loaded ammunition. Loaded rounds can be stored either bullet up or down, your preference, and will be held securely for the trip to the range. No need to go to an aftermarket ammo box!

Great news Kevin,I'm looking forward to this new offering.
I like the idea of a cartridge box coming with the cases. :)

Haven't seen the pricing just yet, since that's set well above my pay grade. It'll be in line with most of teh rest of the Lapua line, but hey, you get what you pay for. Check with Graf & Sons for availabillity, they'll be one of the primary importers, and should give a pretty decent price. Got a couple boxes here on my desk right now, and yeah, it's nice stuff! The new box is a nice feature, too!

If any of you guys can make it out to the SHOT show, we'll have samples there. As soon as I know what the price per box (100 pcs) is, I'll be happy to let you guys know.

Kevin,

Can you tell us the diameter of the casehead on the new 22-250 brass?

Thanks
John

Mudcat,
Have some of the brass here in the office, but no micrometer with me! I'll try to bring one in tomorrowand take some measurments.

Lynn, there's a new 308 Win Palma case out now, with a small primer pocket. Nothing in the magnum line-up for the time being. But down the road, who knows?

Keep you posted if I learn anything more,

KT

Pardon me for my ignorance but why would anyone put a small primer pocket in a .308 case? Serious question. I am an F/TR shooter.

The 6BR guys are looking for ways to put large primer pockets in that case. I have been shooting benchrest, TR, F Class for 50 years. I can see a small primer in a .222. How did this small primer stuff in larger cases get started?

Ignition consistency. The same reason (among others) that Ferris Pindell and Dr. Lou Palmisano chose .220 Russian brass with it's small primer and small flash hole for the .22 & 6mm PPC cartridges. There may be a slight velocity loss but the benefits outweigh.

I will risk sticking my foot in my mouth here and say that the next ten years will see large strides in understanding the relationship between primer, powder, case and bullet excursion. Interior ballistics is an extremely complex subject and we have a lot to learn.

hey guys i just looked at graf's website and they have the brass priced for $63.99/ hundred. hope thats the price, i'll pay that for it. groundhogs look out this year. lol

1000yard,
Sleepygator pegged this one spot on; uniformity has been enhanced via the small rifle primers. Our testers for the field portion of this trial were five US Palma team members, testing at five different areas. All of them came to the same conclusion; the small primers reduced ES and SD considerably, in much the same manner as very specifically selected lots of Large Rifle Primers tend to do. The difference, and one that was uniformly noted between the shooters, was that they showed this reduction with random lots of small primers, and didn't require the careful, time consuming selection process that the large primers often do. That's not to say they still shouldn't be carefully evaluated, but that it may reduce the time it takes to come up with a decent lot of primers for competition. That said, you're perfectly correct that this is pretty much the outer limit of what a small primer can reliably ignite. To that end, we're marketing this as a competitive case, and not recommending it fro many hunting applications. Extreme cold temps or harder to ignite charges of slow burning powders could be a problem here with hangfires or that sort of thing. However, with the normal powders used for competition (such as Varget) and the conditions competitions are normally held under, this is not a problem. Give them a try, and see if they don't help reduce the variables I've discussed here.

Thanks,

Kevin Thomas

Does the lapua 22-250 brass have a small primer of large primer? Just wondering since the 6.5x47 brass has small primers and works well in a 6x6.5x47 with up to 40 gr of powdeer and 115 gr bullets. Thanks Tom

Hey Tom,
No, it's a standard Large Rifle Primer pocket, with a conventional flash hole. Normal reloading set up, and no need to resort to the smaller diameter decapping pins associated with the 6mm BR, the 6.5x47 or the new 308 Win Palma small primer cases.

thanks kevin, i have lapua brass for my 6br and had it for my 308 when i sold it and love the brass. i am so excited to get it for my 22-250 because i want the best brass i can get for those pesky grounghogs. lol nothings too good for those rodents.

Anyone know what the case weighs and what the neck thickness is? I got 200 ordered from Graf's yesterday, this is going to be fun to see how much better we can get our 22-250's to shoot with this great brass.
