22-35 wildcat

Anyone heard of this wildcat cartridge? Looks like a 3/4 scale swift, based on the 25-35 rimmed case.
Recently acquired a repeater based on a VZ 24 action. With old Lyman dies and press, empty brass,
Barrel is stamped: C.C. Johnson Thackery, O. Very nice condition.

Are you sure it’s not a Savage
.22 Hi-Power? A 22 HP is formed by necking
a 25-35 to .22 cal. Uses a .228 bullet in the Savage 99.

Nope, I have a .22 Savage cartridge in my collection. Case body is blown out, with a sharper shoulder. I'll see if I can get a picture up. Shoulder angle appears to be close to 30 degrees.

Sounds like a neat cartridge. For like of a better name, call it a .22 Savage Hi-Power Ackley Improved.

I think the rifle was put together prior to 1947.

Timney trigger, leupold 6.5-20, bottom of forearm is scribed for checkering but never finished, I believe it may have a Douglas barrel

Helped a very good friend chronograph it years ago. Hit 4000 fps with 32 gr. 3031, 40 gr. V-Max.

Closest thing I could find in my Ackley Handbooks would be a .219 Zipper Ackley Improved. But the shoulder is moved forward, and not 40 degrees.

Landis mentions in his 1946 book, Twenty-Two Caliber Varmint Rifles , Charles C. Johnson developing a 22-35 wildcat . 30-30 cases could also be used.

From what Charlie’s grandson knows, you could have a Douglas barrel.

Rid myself of my Herter's 22-3000 brass, R2 Lovell brass, and R2 dies. I gave my Hervey Lovell 22 Varminter (22-250) to John Holliger. John has a wonderful collection of customs by the old masters. I had a little brass and his dies. Lovell built it for a stockmaker in Texas City, Tx in the 1940s I believe. I had the correspondence between the two, And it went with the rifle.

DickE, can you measure the shoulder angle? I don’t know how, eyeball on your picture 30* ? Somebody here could I’m sure.
I'm curious, I shoot a 219 Donaldson Wasp, Harvey, circa 1940 designed that pretty accurate cartridge with a 30* shoulder and now there's a couple new “accuracy “ cartridges using the 30* shoulder - the Creedmoor family and the Valkyrie.

There were multiple 22 caliber cartridges based on the 30-30 case.

If you can post case, neck, base to shoulder lengths and diameter at the shoulder it might help.

The 219 Donaldson Wasp is a bit shorter than the Zipper, but has a 30 degree shoulder. A Stingray that is a bit shorter than that with with a 33 degree shoulder.

Cartridge conversion handbook is a good source as well as cartridges of the world. More than happy to look if you post the measurements

Base dia. (above rim) .4120".
Diameter at shoulder- .360"
Parent case- 25-35 Win. (reloaded round)
Stamping on barrel: 22-35
