22-250ai ?

I just tried 69gr Matchkings in my 12" twist savage 12 22-250 and they are stable at 100 yards.
So far only tried N-540 powder and worked upto 34gr in Norma cases.
They are not shooting as well as 52gr Matchkings so far but ive just begun trying them out and was just interested to see if they would be stable in such a slow twist barrel, so far they are good but im going to try them out to 300 meters today to see how they are in the wind compared to the 52grain Matchking bullets.

Did you physically check to see if your barrel is a 12 twist? I can't believe it would stabilize a 69 grain bullet, they may have miss marked the barrel.

I just measured my barrel with a patched cleaning rod and one full turn is a hair over 30cm so its an 12" twist barrel.

I wouldn't know the difference in 30cm from 30mm from 30m but if the cleaning rod makes a complete revolution in 12" (1 foot) then it is a 1:12 twist ;)

bozo699 quit clowning around(always wanted to say that)! 30cm=300mm/25.4=11.811" ;D
That's funny right there!
I didn't realize that Mauserman was from Europe, that is what the mm stuff was about, well I am glad we have that setteled ;)

When I tried 68 Hornady bthp in my 22-250 12 twist Lrpv Savage I hit the target once or twice out of 5 shots and the ones that did hit were completely sideways. This was around 1000ft elevation. You must have a special one Mauserman. Or mine is less than special maybe. ;)

Ive fired 25 rounds using the 69gr matchking so far and went to look at the targets again just to be sure none of the holes were out of order but they are all perfectly round and i cant see anything that suggest bullet instability.
Im shooting at about 400-500ft elevation and only shot at 100yards so far using these.

They are not shooting all that great in my rifle but they hold under an inch at 100 yards for 5 shots but that might get better with a little tweaking on the load or with a diffrent powder.

i should be getting my .22-250ai barrel with in two weeks. i have some bullets and brass waiting, just need to get the barrel and put it on the action and start building my loads.

It isn't a custom rifle by any means, nor an AI, but I have a 1981 manufactured 788 that just LOVES the 55g vmax moly and 38 grains of H380 (ya, the old standard load). It has shot sub .350" five shot groups every time I've taken it out and the 55g vmax are KILLER on pdogs and songdogs.

nice sounds like a good gun to me. they dont have to be custom to shoot well. i heard that the 53 grn vmax has one of the better bc's for the smaller weight bullets so ill try those and then i also have the 55 grain noslers. hope to find a good load quickly

anyone else shooting the smaller bullets from this cartridge? i am excited to get it since the shoot i am putting together will have a small game section that i could use it on.

Not an Ackley, but I used to have a 26" 14 twist 22-243 that was a hammer with 55 grain Ballistic Tips at 4100, or the 40's at 4600, both with H-414. I sold the barrel, as I made the mistake of building it as a walking type varmint gun with a max heavy barrel contour. Uff Da...... re-barreled it in a #5 22 Dasher instead.

How"s the dasher working out?

Great. In the ever changing evolution, I sold that one too....... ;D

It's now morphed into my 22-250 Ackley. ;)

change after change just like when i build a gun get it shooting real good then get board i either sell it or tear it appart and build another

Sorry for a late reply Calib but still no luck getting them to group to my liking, they are around an inch at 100m for 5 at best so far and im losing interest in them. not chronoed em yet so no real speed data.

Got a couple of boxes of Berger match 50gr and 55gr flatbases that im itching to try so im gonna shelf the matchkings for now.
