22-250AI or 22 creedmoor?

I shoot a 22-250AI but the gun would have been a Creed if the cartridge were in existence when I built the gun. They’re ballistically near twins but the Creed doesn’t require fireforming.

Ditto. Really it comes down to if you want to fireform. If you don’t want to then get a 22 Creedmoor. I’m kinda sick of fireforming so my next will be a 22 Creedmoor.

That's a question I researched over and over before making the decision to build mine. After reading post after post of 22-250AI owners saying they'd build a 22CM, that cinched it for me. My barrel arrived last week and hope to screw it together this weekend.

Fire forming is such an onerous chore, really? For the 22-250 AI, you can still buy factory ammo and shoot it. A friend of mine has a 22-250 AI that shoots quarter inch groups fire forming. He uses old mil-surp 62 grain SS 109 bullets and old mil-surp IMR4895 (we bought a bunch of it at Camp Perry several years back) to fire form his brass. In a pinch, you can go almost anywhere and get 22-250 ammo to feed it if need be. The only downside I've ever seen with 22-250 is at least for now you can't get it with small primered brass.

Six of one, half dozen of the other...I went with the 22 Creed and never looked back.

Stick with the 22-250 and it's AI version. Fire forming for one is a piece of cake and you can find 22-250 ammo anywhere, whereas the creed, not so much.

Walmart online sells .22 BR in 60 grainers.

Let me add another point.
I shoot mostly wildcat cartridges. Crunching brass, concocting loads and fireforming are part of the effort involved in using a non-factory cartridge. However...IMO the idea of a wildcat is to have a chambering which accomplishes something that a SAAMI won’t. In this case, the 22-250 AI once filled a void but the .22 Creedmoor has rendered the 22-250 AI obsolete.

Harsh words? Nope. Just “keeping it real”. I own a 22-250AI and a 6mm-250AI. Built both before any of the Creedmoors (or the other 250 Savage based stuff) existed. Neither accomplishes anything that the factory rounds don’t.

Hmmm, I'm under the impression you can also just shoot 22-250 ammo in a 22 Creedmoor.... If so, that would really take away any thoughts of soing a 22-250 AI.

I’ve had both cartridges.
I like the 22CM better.
The 22 Creedmoor wil give more velocity with the Heavy Projectiles
With no fireforming. Both calibers Are Wildcats and both use up barrels .
But barrels are like Truck Tires,
Sooner or later you’ll need New
Ones.

How’s that?
In my 22/250 AI the BergerVLD 80grs Topped out at 3100 fps , then had pressure signs.
My 22 Creedmoor pushes the same 80 grain Berger 3348 fps.
Each were Stiller/Bartlein Barrels
The same length.
Hope this answers ur question.
