22-250

I have a Remington 22-250 with the varmint barrel on it, I'm guessing 1-14 twist. I was curious to see if anyone was able to get the Hornady 55 gr VMAX to shoot in the 1-14 twist barrel. Berger's twist calculator says it's marginal stable.

I've shot 10's of thousands in my 14 twist 220Swift rifles over the years. If they don't stabilize that would be news to me. Very accurate and hits prairie dogs like Thor's hammer.
Years ago I only used 4064 but the last 15 years I have been using 414.

NOPE,. and the 55 NBT's wouldn't "work" either ( here in Idaho ) in the Winter Months, as the groups, opened up for ME in COLD Weather ! Both Bullets, ARE slightly too LONG for, a 1-14 Twist for, good group, RELIABILITY at Distance
Measure your Bullet's, OAL and Keep UNDER, .780ish to be, Safe and STABLE, all Year.
At 15* to 20* above Zero and at , 200 Yards, the groups were,.. terrible. ( were Fine, in SUMMER, Months @ 100 yds )
Am using them up, in my .223 / 5.56 Rem. AR,.. 1-7 Twist, now !

I was afraid of that!! Guess I can use them in my 223 with 1-9 twist. I was hoping with the flat base they might shoot, I tried the Sierra 55 gr blitzkings and they were all over the target. Thanks for your help!!

I never had an issue with 55 V-Max in 1-14” twist 22-250 but I’ve heard of people that could never make that combination work. Try it out and see if your gun likes them.

WHOOPS,... I was thinking of, the Boatail, 53 grain, V-Max that, won't shoot in my 1-14 Twist Barrel !
Sorry !
I've shot, the 60 grain Flat Base Sierra, HP's in mine and they worked,.. FINE !
As Tommie said,.. "give them a TRY" ,.. they should, work !

I used them (in a 1-14" twist barrel) for a number of years with no problems. But with H380 powder the groups opened up from 5/16" to about a inch when the temp dropped down to 38*. Load development was done at approx. 85*.

.224 Nosler 55 BT has not changed group size, poi in any of my 22-250's during winter hunts(-25+ temps at times). Factory rem barrels. I did go to 12T when new barrels were needed. I run H4895, Varget. Want to try AR Comp, if any were available.

Have a 40x 22-250. Shoots 55 Vmax and Nosler 55BT' just fine. Picked up some Sierra 55 Blitzkings thinking it would be interchangeable to a degree. Wrong. Looked more like a shotgun pattern. Talked to Sierra tech support. The said the plastic tip and boat tail made it long enough to be right on the margin of stability. Any of these three bullets may or may not shoot well in a 14 twist. 55 flat base have no trouble. It's the barrels choice!
