Second choice may be Hornady 53 grain V-Max, they have a higher BC than the 55 Noslers and supposedly need a 12 twist to stabilize but thats for a slower speed cartridge.

Keep in mind that the Swift is already overbore and an improved swift will probably be faster, witch means pick your bullets wisely. Hopefully this build is for varments witch this kind of rifle/calibre is intended for .
When shooting let the rifle/barrel COOL down between shots. If you do this you might have a somewhat reasonable barrel life. If you don't you will burn it up pretty quick.
Set up your scope and Point of impact as best you can by using alignment techniques.
Aside from all of the above, Man you are going to have a lot of FUN!

I live in new york state,how unfortunate !
I have the ac cobra small block engine and my brother has the big block 427 low riser and I will take the small block hands down. Go with the 22-250ai,I have one and it is a riot instead of something that is slowly becoming harder to get brass for by the day.
Jonbearman , noted , cases are not an issue , I have 200 Norma .220 Swift cases and another 200 on order , so figuring on two hunting trips per year for one week at a time , I don't reckon brass is an issue for me and will see me well into retirement.
Changeling , just heard from a customer of the same smith that is building my 220 AI who owns a bog stock .220 , he concurs.The 55 Nosler BT GOES ! He also said that the 40 grain Nosler BT really GOES !! Maybe the 220 AI might be too much for the 40's.

I've been through this before Mike, LOL.
Tell your Smith to set it up for 50 to 55gr bullets like the 55gr BT, and Sierra hollow point match bullets (varments only). You won't need to get into the 40 gr stuff (even though you can still shoot it great)
The 50 to 55 gr will give better energy "close and way out there", recoil will be low, terminal effect on varments will be about what one would expect from a stick of dynamite.
The smile on your face will be about the same size as another crack you have

Which ever cartridge you go with, a 1-12 twist will get the 53g V max with it's .290 BC to stabilize. I shoot them at 4130 fps out of a 27" lilja barrel in 22/250 AI, tiny groups with Win 760 with a CCI250 in PMC brass. The 53g V max blows less than the 60g V Max....check it out!
Last night I started thinking about Mikes project (220 Swift AI).
I wonder what a 6.5 X 220 Swift AI would be like ! I've never heard of anyone going this route with a 220 Swift case, maybe they have but I just don't know. The Swift case is a very strong design as you guys know.
However I don't know if Lapua or RWS makes brass for the Swift. We do know that NORMA does because Mike is using it.
In Mikes situation if he had another barrel in 6.5 he could get his smith to just make it a switch barrel rifle with the buying of another reamer in 6.5 and necking up some of the 220AI brass to 6.5!

Changeling , no more ponderings please ! Just so happens I have a .260 Rem built by the same smith also on a Pierce SA receiver. Dang I could have done it all on one action ! But now I will have pretty much 2 identical rifles , same receiver same Timney triggers , the scopes are the same except for the power , a 3-9x42 Kahles KX for the .260 and a 3.5-10x50 Kahles KX for the swift AI.
Lapua and RWS do not make .220 SWIFT Cases and Winchester are not available.The choices were Norma or Remington and what with the price of Normas not much more that Remington , it was a no brainer.
Ackleyman II , I went for the Krieger 1:14 twist because it was the only one available and the importers could not give me a time line on more barrels arriving. Local barrel maker only offers 1:10 or 1:14, so a 1:10 will let me shoot the heavy projectiles and if I need to do that well I will switch to the .260 Rem with the 85 grain Sierra HP's which go like a steam train in the .260 and group in the .4's.
Hopefully in about a months time the .220 Swift will be complete and I will post some pics of the finished rifle.

Hi Mike, sounds like your plan is coming together. I am really looking forward to your rifle's completion and a "PICTURE"/REPORT on how you feel about it.
Just remember to take it slow, you be cool and let that barrel do the same. Set up the scope/rifle mechanically as best you can (ask your gunsmith). This will save you from firing more shots than is needed/necessary to get it properly sighted in. If it was me I would sight it in for 2" high at 100 yd, this will give you a great trajectory .
Try not to jump around "Bullets". Start with one brand/type and stick with it for a while till you and the rifle or working together. I would highly recommend the 55gr Nosler BT, it's a known bullet that shoots very well.
That's about it, except for one thing, keep that barrel CLEAN, all that speed creates a lot of fouling and that will eat up that barrel faster than you can eat up one of grand ma's cookies, LOLAL!
