21st century hand primer...

This is the only hand primer I have seen that allows you to seat primers at certain depths in the primer pocket, VS bottoming out the primer in the primer pocket with every other tool.. I am very curious as to how much difference at all primer seating depth makes... I have always bottomed out primers in the primer pocket where I know they are all flush with the bottom of the primer pocket... and I have have some excellent results always doing it this way.. It spikes my interest now because I am in the market for a new hand seater because I wore mine out after its years of service...

With the 21st century it takes the 21st century case holders for it... Can you switch out the case holders without changing the depth setting? or when you change the shell holder do you have to reset the depth setting?

Wondering what kind of difference this makes...

When I first read about this tool, I did not get it. The point of the adjustment is to be able to compensate for different case dimensions so that when the primer bottoms in the pocket of the particular cases that you are using, that the handle is in the position that is most convenient for the user. There are detents that are quite distinct. You do loose your setting when changing shell holders...BUT it is of absolutely no consequence, since it takes perhaps five seconds to find your preferred point of adjustment. The most accurate rifles that I know of are short range benchrest rifles. Virtually all of those who shoot them seat their primers by feel. That is good enough for me. I feel mine bottom and then put a little compression on the pellet. This is an exquisitely made tool. IF you do not like it, it will be an admission that you are a complete idiot (just kidding). Can you tell that I like mine a lot?

Not the only one. A different approach.

+1. Been using my K&M for years and really like it over others that I also use due to it's versatility (adjustability) and feel. Now I'm sure anything that 21st/John Perkins makes is also very nice like his Concentricity Gauge which is light-years ahead of many others on the market. In fact, a friend of mine whose been reloading for more than 50 years saw my new 21st Concentricity Gauge and had to have one. Said its the nicest he's ever seen and bought one immediately. So I'd say you'd be happy with either the K&M or the 21st depending on which approach to primer seating and adjustment you like the best.

i read your write up on it too... im leaning towards buying it... ive always seated primer by feel too... just didnt kknow what more this tool really offered..

I have been reloading for over 30 years.
I bought a 21st Century hand priming tool 4 years ago.
The best purchase I have ever made, you wont be disapointed.
The adjustable depth gives me confidence that each primer is seated the same.
Good company with great products.

I have this to say:
well made tool built around a 5 cent Lee primer tray. in my opinion the LEE primer tray is the biggest POS and by far the only item in all my reloading bench that I would not use if I had a choice. I shoot across the course matches and don't really need all the adjustability but need a well functioning tool in order to sometimes load 300 rounds in a single run. I ALWAYS have problems because of the LEE primer tray.
If you are loading low round counts I would definitely suggest the Sinclair or anything else. sorry but I see it as a huge failure because it's built around the LEE tray. He needs to design a better tray and eliminate the weak link.

Can the km be used with gauge be used to tell how tight the primer pockets were?

No. It references off the bottom of the pocket and the top of the primer at the same time. You zero the gage and then when you seat the primer and the gage zeros, you have touched the bottom of the pocket. You then can seat 2 or 3 thou further for crush.

When I got arthritis in both thumbs, my priming capability went to hell as I couldn't feel because I had to use both thumbs on the seating lever. Now with my K & M dial seater life is good again as Dox says.

explain to me how that fixes my POS 21st century hand primer? The OP didn't say which product he was looking at and i was just adding to the conversation. Why would I buy something else from 21st Century after seeing that he designed something based on a LEE tray?

Try it, there is nothing not to like. It brings to mind such words as GREAT, excellent, well thought out and built, how did I get by before, etc. It is hard to get excited about a priming tool, but this one I did, as close to perfection as is presently possible.
