20VT repeater

I really wish I could remember what it was, they had made some LH versions, too, which were of interest to me. It was a "Mini Mauser" of sorts, I think.

Danny
It was the Zastava M85 Mini Mauser action, imported by Charles Daly and was available in 22h, 222, 223, 204, 7.62 x 39 and was available in 223 in L/H.
I'm not sure what happened but Charles Daly stopped importing them and then some time latter they were being sold by Remington

It's scary looking to me..... I don't understand it, either.

As mentioned several times earlier, the old Sako L461 an A1 are perfect. Almost like they were made for the fireball case. I have a 221 on a 461 and a 20VT on the A1.

Kinda the ultimate repeater in 20 VT I built a few years ago. (Sold it this past summer though.)

Took some work to get it humming and would only eject/load reliably with a suppressor attached, but it ran like a sewing machine! I eventually converted it into a gassless ar side-cocker because I didn't like chasing my hard earned brass in the weeds.

I've since built a 20 VT XP-100 pistol that is super fun to shoot, albeit single shot. Previous to the AR build, I re-barreled a Savage Stryker pistol to 20VT, which is how I caught the VarTarg bug.

Did you ever try an AR brass catcher?

I put one on and never looked back as I also hate to look for brass on the prairie.

I even run one on the 17 HMR bolt action just to avoid the clean-up. We work hard to leave no traces or brass on the properties we shoot.

My main PD gun in 204 is an AR and has a modified Caldwell Universal brass catcher. Modified to get rid of the velcro and used a section of a pic mount to attach to the pic rail. Swings out of the way.

But all good points ... two reasons I converted the 20VT to gasless:

1. The side charging upper I used to build it has a reciprocating bolt handle that won't allow a standard brass catcher unless it has been drastically altered with a slot to allow the handle to pass by. I did try to extend the basket away from the receiver far enough to allow the bolt movement, but it was a flimsy kludge and a hassle.

2. Then the high speed stripping, chambering and ejecting in semi-auto was scarring up my lovingly neck turned VT brass.

I know what you mean about leaving the prairie pristine... I hunt family land and my bro-in-law/manager will let me know if he finds brass scattered around! We also all shoot suppressed.
