20VT repeater

Any of the CZ 527s in these calibers will work
17 Rem
204 Ruger
221 fireball
222 rem
223 rem

I have built many 20 Vartargs in my time with all different caliber magazines here

They all will feed Flawlessly
Thanks.
I can see the market for these isn't going to make it easy to play with them, so picking the right starting point is helpful. Thanks for the pointers.

A Sako L461 and you're set from a feeding standpoint. The earlier L46 will also work but the trigger situation makes those an easy pass.

With a standard 700, you can get around the feeding but unless the bolt is originally from a 221FB or a 17FB, the position of the extractor will give you gas. The exception might be the Mack Bros action.

Was reassured the 223 mag will feed the 20VT case..
I await your findings.
Ran across another member a month ago that had a 527 20VT. I believe he had a 221 magazine and had feeding issues. A couple of the guys made suggestions on how to tune the feed lips. He worked on it a bit and made it better, but not perfect last I heard from him.

I am probably the only one on this forum that has little liking for the 527’s. I had five (5) and don’t miss them.

“I read where one guy used a MDT/Acis mag- I call BS !!! - I have 3 varieties of 223 mags, w/ different lengths of mag lips, none feed the 221FB case- it pops out nose diving into the bottom of the barrel-on a custom SA Rem clone-“

The mdt mag will absolutely feed the fireball case. Only Mag that I have found that will. I have one on a stiller tac 30 that feed from a Remington blind mag in a stock. I moved it to an xlr chassis for my daughter and pulled my hair out finding a mag to work. The feed lip insert mdt uses is longer than any I’ve found. But it will feed a 10rd top to bottom flawless. Since then I’ve put a 223 in her chassis and the fireball went in a manners stock with M5 bottom metal, still running MDT mags.

MDT poly mag box on Stiller action- it don’t feed-

Sako L461 feeds, extracts and ejects 20 VT flawlessly...
So do 2 Rem. Mod. Seven's I own; .17 FB and a .221 FB. One was originally a .17 FB CDL sporter and the other made on one of the .300 BO actions that Brownell sold a bunch of a few years back. Both have the extractor located higher in the bolt face to keep the cartridge captive till ejection.

Sako l461! I think the vartarg is great. But for me my answer to all this was the 20-222! Currently running 2 rifles now in this chambering. Feeding perfectly from anything already 222/223 size originally. Ive had and tried cz527,700,788 & l461. Got rid of the 527. I cant stand clips hanging down. Lol

I've got a couple of .20-222's and it's a great round. Main drawback is the cost of dies vs. .20 VT. I had the first one all chambered up before I called Hornady and ordered a FL die -- 200 bucks, custom die! I want a FL die for these neck downs since bushing dies just don't go down to the bottom of the neck. After spending $200 (several years ago) for the FL die, I decided I might as well make up another rifle and get more use out of it. I must say it's a very smooth die. They explained the price reflected making them with EDM to hold tight tolerances with a smooth finish.
