204 ruger

given custon bullets what are your group size at 100 yards.also given a custom rifle what do you think that the accuracy of this round would be.just asking.

Not sure about custom bullets and rifles but I have two CZ 527's and a Remington 700 SPS shooting consistent 3's using Sierra and Bergers. I have a 20 Practical Remage with a Tactical Ordnance barrel that will shoot as well or better with Berger 35's.

I guess I do t really understand the question.
Just like the old “speed is money, how fast do you want to go” statement.
A full blown custom, top to bottom will hang with a lot of them.
The 20’s suffer from a good bullet supply.
I built a 20 BR to run 55 grain Berger’s. Some may laugh at it. I have been nothing less than pleased, it was a pleasure to work with and get where I wanted it.
FYI I got a huge amount of help and input HERE.
I won’t name names, so as not to forget anyone, a big Thanks again.

If your not counting your pennies they will shoot better than a lot of folks will believe.

Get your check book out and don’t t look back.

The .204 won't win many benchrest matches but most shoot under 3/4",some under 1/2" and you'll get a few in the 1/4" range with factory guns.
It's fast and fun to shoot with very low recoil and easy to hit with.
Factory ammo in very accurate. 32 and 39 Serria s shoot very well for factory bullets.
I haven't tried custom bullets yet.

Most .20's are shooting machines.

I had a factory Remington vssf ii in 204 that shot 39gr blitzkings into .5 easily with a few groups in the .3’s but definitely not its average. It shot the 40gr vmax closer to 3/4 and 32gr roughly the same. Im
Sure with a better set up it would be a good 1/2 moa gun with other bullets as well:

One other thing. After speaking with a well established rifle builder I asked if there was a guarantee of any kind of accuracy. His comment was, I guarantee you will be happy with it. If your not, contact ME and we will work it out, NOT any need to ask a bunch of folks that have zero to do with it. As far as accuracy, I don’t guarantee anything as I do not know how well you can shoot.

I will admit that I have not set my rigs up to see what they can do off the bench as a bench gun. I quit fiddling with that as I shoot on field conditions 99% of the time, so why put more wear on it to poke holes in paper when I can launch little furry critters into the air.

I was told by a wise honest fellow years ago, take a hunting rig out and if you get MOA out of it every time out, you should buy a lottery ticket and call the bank to have them make room in the safe. Bench gun, completely different it better deliver on demand.

the standard 204 has way too much freebore. If you tighten up the specs on a custom reamer for a start, look for some amazing results.

Properly designed reamers used in 20 Tactical are showing some impressive results along with the 20 practical in 11 twist barrels shooting the 39 and 40g bullets.

I don't know if or when we will see anymore Winchester 204 brass, so you are stuck with Norma, Hornady, and Nosler brass when you can find it.

Your .20 Tac is a shooting machine.
Tell us a little more about your rifle and how you make your brass/ammo.

Thank you,

I’ve had super good luck with the 20 tac. I actually bought a used one that came in on trade to a store, from an unknown builder, with unknown parts, on a botched remington 700 with Dakota brass and Redding dies. This thing shot so amazing but had feeding and ejection issues.

I fell in love with the caliber so re built what you see above.

- ks sar action
- ks 1:10 twist 24” #5 barrel
- unknown barrel from original rifle 1:11 twist set back and rechambered to match new reamer, roughly 23” #5
- manners lrh stock,
- tt diamond trigger.

Both barrels shoot the exact same load of 39gr blitzkings at 4050fps. 10 twist is 4050 and the 11 is 4035 fps. It’s a hot load so would rather not share but it groups beautifully, and functions in 35*c to - 25*c.

My 11 twist barrel shoots the Berger 35’s great as well but never finalized a load as I leave the 10’twist on for most of the time. About to put the 11 back on though to finalize the 35gr load for this upcoming coyote season as the 39’s tear them up pretty good and my buddy wants the furs this year.

I have a few hundred head stamped Dakota (20’tac) brass but I also have 200 pieces of LC 223 I’ve made too 20 tactical. I just run them through my 20 tac FL bushing sizer and then a mandrel and fire. I mandrel just incase of the work on the brass pushing any imperfections in the neck and let the fire forming work itself out on first firing. Then I just FL size after that. easy as heck.

I don’t mind stepping down to the 35’s as I have added a 22bra to the collection for those fields with longer shot opportunities so the lower bc of the 35’s in the 20 won’t be as much of a deal breaker. IMG_3178.jpeg

Would expect 1/4 to 3/8 MOA out of most 26 "Varmit or heavie barrels, had 2 savages that would shoot 1/4moa, repalced with Kriger & Criterion bareels,if it won't shoot at least 3/8 MOA it's time to get another barrel. On calm days a good 204 will approach F Class groups in the right hands. Have shot the 204 w/ 40 grain V-Max out to 1000 yards on calm days.

I had a 204 that shot very well, I sold it due to lack of brass availability. With that in mind, 20 practical or tactical is the better choice in my mind. If you are worried about that extra umph, maybe a 20 practical AI. Many people far wiser than me say "if Lapua doesn't make brass, don't chamber it". I will never deviate from that advice again.

I have shot Hornady, Winchester, Fiocchi,Rem brass all has worked well for prairie dogs and hunting out of my 204. I have never shot or setup either of my custom barreled rifles for Lapua brass, my 22-250 runs on Sig and my 17 rem uses Remington. I just planned ahead, had the brass for the custom reamers. You can wear out a barrel with a few hundred pieces of brass, just need to setup the sizing die correctly and not blow out primer pockets.

39 gr Blitzking's shot the best until I tried some 39 gr speer tnt's over Benchmark. I'll second the 8208 being also a very good powder to use if you have some. Otherwise RL10X works very well.

Bill K beat me in this year's shootout over on .204ruger.com but not by much.

I have the TC Venture predator model 204 ruger. 1@10 flutted camo barrel. Mine is a tack driver also. There not cheap any more!! Hopefully Thompson Center when they start back up in 2025. They will bring the Venture back out. I want another 204 ruger and 280 rem. When I bought my predator model. I bought 6 or 7 extra clips for it.
