204 Ruger#1 Stainless Laminate

Does anyone own one of these? Is it a medium weight barrell? How does it shoot for you?Thinking of getting one of these for a dedicated varminter. All replies welcome.

Save your money and probably a good amount of hair. They just arent worth the hassle. Buy a savage and youll never look back. I have the rifle yuor talking about and it took way too long it get it to shoot. I had the rifle reworked from new. The trigger is set at 15oz and the hanger under the barrel is now adjustable. It will get some groups of 3 shoots under a 1/2 but its not consistant. Between the poor eye relief and the lack of accuracy you can do better with a savage. Sure they dont look as nice but the new trigger and those cut barrels cant be beat for the money. I dont know what kind of accuracy your looking for and what youll be huntiing. I have a few nice custom rifles and now Im spoiled so the problem with my #1 drove me nuts. I just mounted a Sawrovski 6-24x50 on it since my Nikons tube was short and thatmade it difficult to get good eyerelief. Give me a ring and I can fill you in. Good luck.

Thats quite the blanket statement don't you think.

I agree #1's can require some extra work, that most can be fiddled with to shoot nearly as good a turn bolt. I for one enjoy the #1 and have hunted very successfully with it. A Savage will shoot better than most any other factory rifle out of the box, but the the #1 has an appeal to it most others don't possess.
