Day one of the match was Varmint for Score 100 yard match with 64 shooters taking the line. This is always a hard fought match where the name of the game is a high “X” count.

Today was no exception as the day first match of the day saw no less than 17 shooters score 5 X’s on the first target and 17 more shooters hitting 4 X’s. All in all, 62 of those shooter scored 50 point target.

On the second target the wind began to pick up a bit and 12 shooters hit a 5 X target. Still impressive that 12 of 64 or 20% shot perfect targets. Still, a trend was emerging with Mike Guilliot leading but Sam Duke close behind in second place. For the third target, the wind began to take its toll as there were six perfect targets. But they were followed by a bunch of 4 X targets.

Match 4, the conditions improved slightly with nine 5 X targets being shot. Still Mike Guilliot and Sam Duke were leading the field but several others were hot on their heels.

Match five again showed ten perfect targets. More importantly, three of them belonged to Wayne Corley, Sam Duke, and Weldon Yoder.

When all the dust and protests settled, First place went to Wayne Corley with a great 250-23x effort. Sam Duke followed with a great 250-22x effort. Weldon Yoder came in third place with a 250-22x after being creedmor’ed by Sam.

Thanks to all who came and shot. You all made this a great first day of the Nationals. Here is looking forward to the 200 yard leg of the Varmint for Score match.

As another tidbit, as you can see there were 44 250 scores put up today. Two thirds of the field shooting 250 is an impressive number.
Special note and shoutout. Michelle Markesteyn our only lady shooter placed eighth today with a fine 250-20x effort. Way to go Michelle!

There is a clarification I want to make on my rifle. When I filled out my registration, i did not have my new rifle built. Since then I finished it, and brought it to the Nationals.

My new rifle was a BAT B melonited drop port in a new 3D printed stock by @Jim Nicolas and hydrodipped by Liquid Concepts in Arkansas. The barrel work was done by @LONGRIFLES and the tuner was made by PMA. The scope was still a Valdada 36
