2021 F-Class Nationals

No such thing in RATon. You have to drive to Trinidad for decent Mexican.

Or anything else for that matter.
Agreed . There is ; or used to be , at least one really good Mex restaurant in Trinidad I know of . My pitch was for BA . If you ignore all the "chain" Mex food places , there are still some good ones , but you have to look for them .

If you like Chinese, Wonderful House is pretty good. Ask Nancy Tompkins. :)

Let me think about this for a second. Shoot at Ben Avery or on a National Guard base with NO berms ...... I think I'll choose Mexican Food, even if it is in Trinidad!
I’ve heard a nasty rumor that the targets are a son of a bitch to raise and lower at Atterbury.

Looking at targets with no berm is easy..... unless the sun is directly above and behind. Then it sucks bad.

;):p:p I see what you did there.

At Atterbury it is not the raising up and down of the targets, but what you are standing on while pulling targets.

Being a south facing range, there is a possibility that the sun will be above you and behind the targets.

All in all I never look at the target at Atterbury, I just hold onto the frame and watch the trees/brush to move. You can feel the bullet pass through the target and the brush in the impact area will move.

Personally, I would like to see the Nationals moved every other year like it has been. I think it should rotate between the “west”, the “east” and the “central” zones of the USA. If not that kind of format, then I would like to see it held every year at Whittington Center in Raton. It is the NRA long range site, few people live there so there is no real “home town” advantage, and it is a formidable range for sure! The “cream will come to the top”!
Raton gets my vote for location but for slick range management it’s Desert Sharpshooters and Ben Avery. I plan to start spending a lot of outdoor time here in south Texas to prep for Indiana heat and humidity.

I,m glad to see the Nat,s held at Atterbury. There are a lot of good shooters on this side of the playground that don,t go because of the hassle or the expense .

Spoken like a pro. Yes the platforms don’t look like fun.

But I can tell you with certainty that the targets are heavy to move up and down. Not sure if the targets will vibrate with all the heavy steel.

Ken?! (21st post in 10 years). We’ve been at this a while... How’d we here, right in the middle of the country, end up so short on big ranges?

Texas and every state above it is within a day’s drive from either side, solid Red, flat, and reasonably priced when not absurdly cheap. There’s typically no winter shutdown from Oklahoma south.

collection can, extended.

This thread got very long and distracted fast. Is there any insight in it whether the nationals will happen this year?

Slightly better than rumor is that the NRA hasn't appropriated any funding for National matches this year, neither F-class nor sling. A decision will be made by April 1st. While Nationals are planned money has not been set aside yet.
