2016-17 F Class Nationals

So the pit lane's staying where it is now & new targets will be to the south? Interesting... can't wait to see what's been done by the time the Fundraisers weekend starts in a couple weeks! And +1 on the grass thing! Shooting off sand isn't much fun & Earl's sensitive about his younger turf, with good reason!

Read all the comments. Look forward to coming up this summer to shoot and again 2016 for the nationals. Should be a great time! Thanks for the heads up Bob and Karin.

:D I guess it's outa the question to ask if the plan calls for huge, towering shade trees back and just behind the 1000-yard line, like there used to be :)? No, I didn't think so. :-\ :'(

Dan your history at Winnequah must predate mine by many years. My first visit in '05 I think there were a few scraggly trees behind the line at the little end, of scant use after about 11 AM in summer. Played hobb with shooters wanting to use the 1,200 line to the east.

Maybe there's a way shooters could contribute to funding portable "shade" elements like I've seen at other ranges? They're not too costly & would go a long way to providing a respite to the summer sun at Winnequah. Easy to take down before moving back to the 1200, unlike trees.

2005 was my first time to go, too! Won the MWP with a Palma rifle that year...have been going every year since, but not winning!! Nope, they were not very large trees; and Earl refused to water them.

Nice to see you on a forum, KarinL.

For y'all that don't know, KarinL "IS" the one that makes things work at Lodi. Best statistician you'll find most anywhere.

My best advice would be to secure lodging as soon as the dates are firmed. The good stuff (close) goes fast. Lots of nice restaurants in the area, but breakfast can be an issue (or at least it used to be). Lots of things to see and do in the area and you don't have to travel far to see them. As stated earlier, Oct thru ice-up is trophy walleye time and it's available close by.

"Normals" on the range are a soft left to right predominant in the morning, increasing in intensity as the morning progresses. By mid-morning you may see R-L reversals, but they can be seen in the upwind flags. The duration of those R-L reversals will increase as the day progresses. Cannot ever recall having to shoot in the R-L condition on a normal day with WSW winds. It was always a matter of patience and clock management. Sept and Oct can be unpredictable though and wind can come from any clock position. The range faces pretty much due west, so be advised that the targets are shaded...not as much of an issue for scope shooters. It's a great range to shoot a tall score if you hit the right conditions.

Denys,
Sacramento FCNC 2010 also ran 6 relays with block time for 2 shooters. And moved firing points between matches. Went well and fast.

I vote Sacramento Valley Shooting Center for a future F-Open Nationals event ;D Probably not big enough to hold both F T/R and F-Open at the same time given the amount of shooters now, but just F-Open with 25 lanes might work out.

That was back when FCNC was 'only' ~120 shooters, F-Open and F/TR combined. Yes, it was well run, and went much faster than I would have thought using paired relays and infiltration squadding.

Yes, I think all F-open shooters should be banished to Kalifornia. :-)

There is only ONE Lodi, when it comes to shooting, Lodi, Wisconsin! Winnequah gun club on internet.

Whew! That's a relief. I finally escaped from The People's Republic of California, and there is no way I'm going back there to shoot a match.

End of September to Early October is usually some of the best weather of the year. For bow hunters, its still early season and and for the bird hunters it is before the pheasant opener. Can't imagine better dates. Add to that 4 hours from the house and BANG, I plan to be shooting my first National! I have already asked myself for the time off! ;)

Hey Bob Sebold

Have actual dates been decided yet?

Are they still going to run mid and long range together?

Why not run mid range earlier in the year while the kids are on summer break?

I was just wondering if dates were set too. splitting mid and long range would mean people who want to be in both have to travel twice, but, for folks like me who can only get away in the summer, a split with the mid in the summer would work just fine

Dates are not set in stone yet. Earl says we will split ftr and open if no other targets get built. The NRA wants the mid range and long range to run one after the other so we can not split them. If we cannot improve range, Practice for mid range will start on 9-23. 24-26th will be FTR midrange, 27th will be team, 28th thru 30th open, then long range. October 2-4 FTR, 5th will be 4 man teams, 6-8th will be open shoot.

Until something changes that's the way it looks now. We will have at least 32 targets. Perhaps this fall and winter we can work on more room, but for now, that's where we are at.

Will F-open have MR practice day on 9/27 after team match? F-open MR team match 10/1? LR F-open practice 10/5 after team match? F-open team match 10/9?

Will F-open have practice days or are they supposed to practice 9/23, 5 days prior to their shoot? What about practice day for LR for F-open?

When will team matches be for F-Open, with the F/TR matches or after practice days?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get clarifications so plans can be made for travel and work vacation.

Rick, I am not the guy to answer that question, just reporting what Earl said. I think the NRA believes they would have greater numbers of shooters if done this way and that is why they asked for it. It is up to them where the venue is. So if you want to host it you do it the way the want. As far as practice goes, right now Earl only had down two days for practice, September 23rd for mid range and October 1 for long range. This may all change in the future as we may or may not be improving the range. I just do not have any guarantee's yet. We could also add a day for practice between TR and open matches if needed. Right now we need to find out the extent of improvements we can get done and then all will be a lot clearer. I will let you know more when I find out.
