2016-17 F Class Nationals

Hey Bob

Will you guys be hosting the MR Nationals as well those years? If so any chance of maybe running it June?

There probably will not be that many paid pullers, never is up here. So Danny you got your wish! Denys, you will need to get on "Earl Time". Nobody ever shoots till 6:00 at Lodi. As far as the size goes, I cannot tell you at this time how many points we will have. More than 28 for sure. I will bust my *** to get as many as possible. Unfortunately I cannot do as I please. There will be larger firing points and more parking, more, more, more, including malted beverages after shooting!

When things get firmed up I will let you know, but it will be months, not weeks. Meeting with the board went well so far. Looking for funding as we speak.

I was there in 2011, I enjoyed it tremendously. It was extremely well run.

But was the cattle prod really necessary?

Rick, I am not sure when mid range will be running , yes we are having those also. You have to check the schedule and also may need to work with other range schedules. It gets complicated at times. I don't remember any cattle prods, but I bet it would motivate shooters! I don't think I will pass that tip on to Earl though. Now that he is a grand senior, he is mellowing a lot.

Danny, good news, they said they will have a pic nick table for you to shoot from under. Spring is supposed to happen all over us next week, so I will be shooting outside next Wednesday, if anyone wants to come up early to shoot and get a little practice in.

The mid range is all part of the deal. The NRA wanted a club to host both matches. I still believe that they could be separated. There are many ranges that could handle the mid range, but not go beyond 600yds. I didn't go to the mid range last year, heard that included 300 and 500 yds also. WHY? If we can shoot long range at just 1000, why can't we shoot mid range at only 600? I've never shot at 300, but can't imagine that it's very easy to score when the X ring gets covered by pasters.

I did not want the MR and LR at the same range but guess what they didn't ask me. Go figure. Anyway I would really like to see them ran as 2 separate events and as far apart as is reasonable. That way if October does not work well with your schedule maybe May or June does and you can shoot the MR instead and still compete in a Nationals for the year.

However given the range capacity I believe that you will in some way have to limit participation. Maybe our sport has grown to that???????

I've argued that point for a number of years now. I don't think it's all unreasonable to have a certain minimum bar, as long as its reasonable. In my mind, having a classification would make a decent pre-requisite.

Hopefully the team match goes a little better than in 2011... ???

Also... if you're improving the 1000yd firing line, see if you can squeeze in a little more room behind it. Last time a certain knucklehead tipped his chair back too far and flipped over on top of my rifle and bipod...

I think Lodi is a great choice, and if I know the guys there it will accommodate everyone and run smoothly. We were packed in in 2011 and I think it was enjoyable for most everyone despite some weather issues, but the weather made that match memorable. I might just pull out the old gear to attend.

Yep... 45 Monday, 52 Tuesday, 54 Wednesday... it's about TIME!

I'd be there but I gotta work Wednesday. Maybe La Crosse on Tuesday though!

I can't wait, nor can my wife. I just hope the matches are not in Sept. or later.... I love to hunt as well. Seasons in Alaska open mid August. I am always torn between competing and hunting.

My wife heard me laughing.....she came and read over my shoulder and asked "Where's Lodi?" When I told her, her only response was "well, we'll mess you while you're gone." That was a very nice thing

There already is a lot more room behind the existing firing points. We will widen them when we add more targets. I was tired of shooting off a culvert also. Those points are really nice now just narrow, but that will be rectified! I know what you mean about hunting. I have to go elk hunting right after nationals this year, Dammit! I doubt I will be able to work that whole month. My clients will probably dump me cuz I'm AWOL. I need a new job! No, I need to retire! Come on Obama, give us shooters a break. Lets make jobs illegal in this country, once and for all! Move retirement age to 50. SS won't be around much longer anyway. Then all I would have to do is shoot.

I have finally got around to reading everyone's comments and really appreciate it. We are making plans to expand the range to at least 40 and maybe 50 targets by 2016 if the work can get done (quite an undertaking for the club). It means a little less shooting for us personally but will be well worth it if everyone shows up.

The approximate dates within a day or two will be Sept. 25 thru Oct. 7. Mid-Range Nationals will be fired the first 5 days, F Class Nationals would be the next 5 days (includes one Practice day in front of each Championship). Programs have not been written yet.

Earl wants to have a competitors meeting at the F Class Nationals in Phoenix this year like last year to listen to what everyone has to say and what should be done differently if anything. Remember it is your Championships, not ours. Just trying to do what you want.

The points will not be so close that I have to wear ear muffs in the Stat Office. I will definitely not let Earl have a "cattle prod". He has never used one on me and better not try either - he knows how well I can shoot!!

It's certainly closer to me than "somewhere out West".

If you hitch up the oxen to your Conestoga and clear the pass when snow melts, you'll make Phoenix by late October for the Nationals. Better figure on wintering there, too. [br]
Or, you could wait and take one of them aeroplane things "somewhere out West" and hope for the best. ;)

Woohoo you're gonna be moving' more sand around huh?

The last time a few years ago was impressive to see (and to be a small part of when it came time to put things back together) so I can only imagine what Earl's got in mind now....

40 or 50 points... all the way back to 1,000 yards?

Where's the bus gonna turn around :o

I think two driveways and two buses would be in order. Nothing locked yet so I can't say what will happen, but talked with heavy equipment operators on range now and Earl both yesterday. I was surprised at how little sand will have to be moved. Still a lot of work, but not as bad as I thought. Plenty of room for 50 targets. With a little luck, we will have 4 targets to the north and the target shed modified to shoot over it before the Midwest Palma in June. Then the fun can begin south of the range! We hope to get the firing points in this summer so we get 2 seasons of grass on it before the nationals.

The equipment guys had some down time today with the big dozer that has all the elevation equipment on it. Big $$, glad I don't own that stuff.
