2015 F-Class Mid-Range & Long Range Nationals

Just thinking:
Competitor A wins MR
Competitor B wins LR
Competitor C wins super agg

A = U.S. Midrange Champion
B = U.S. Long Range Champion
C = U.S. F-Class Champion.

Use this equation for various other permutations.

I see no reason why the above format wouldn't work. If a competitor doesn't shoot in the same discipline for both events, or doesn't shoot in both matches, sorry for your bad luck. Why penalize the shooters that make the trip and shoot both matches just because it doesn't accommodate everyone. What's next? Handing out participation medals and buying everybody a slurpee when the last shot is fired? This isn't Little League.

Warren,

I am with you.... I'm in favor of anything that will increase participation, enhance competition and can be implemented in a reasonably fair, equitable and financially responsible manner.

In other words, if it's good for the shooters, then it's good for the sport, and should probably happen.

But here's the reality: The 2015 Program has already been submitted, approved and published for this year with no mention of a "super agg.". So, as a practical matter, I suspect that if there is to be a "super agg." it will probably have to be next year... assuming that a sponsor/donor steps forward to make it financially possible.

We are still a relatively new sport and we still have some growing to do. We still need National Championship Trophies for F-T/R and for all of Mid-Range... and I am sure there are other things we need to think about and accomplish as well.

Lot's of things to think about and discuss.... including the addition of the "Super Agg."... if it adds to the sport, increases participation and increases the level of competition, I'm for it... even if I can't win it....

For whatever it might be worth....

John

Midrange Nationals winner: F-Class Midrange National Champion
Long Range Nationals winner: F-Class Long Range National Champion
Aggregate winner: Shooter of the year.

Nobody is penalizing anyone. Those that shoot both matches have a chance to win two National Championships, better than the guy that only shows up for one!

This "aggregate" does not exist under the NRA system currently. It would be nothing more than a club level award.

As John mentioned above, there are a lot of things that still need to be done to bring the disciplines and matches at par in Trophies and adding to that burden before "catching up" will put us that much behind. For those that just show up for matches it should be noted that a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes to put on a good match. Mid, Matt, Michelle, Rick Curtis and others that make Phoenix an enjoyable match do a lot of work behind the scenes and adding to that burden is easy for us to sit and type on our keyboards, but is very time consuming for many.

If NRA chooses to make this aggregate part of the rules then there could be no argument against it. Simple.

And just a FYI to the newer folks we actually used to shoot MR and LR all in the same match and it was quite enjoyable. Those of us under the age of 80 that are still working and raising a family could shoot the entire match on about 3 days vacation assuming you have weekends off.

Since there wouldn't be an official award for the aggregate of both nationals how about we do like weve done in the past. Everbody pitches in x amount of money and whoever gets highest score out of those that participated get the pot. I guess split the pot since there is f-open and tr.

Well put, Dean! 😊

John,
I am glad to see the interest in this. And I agree that there are quite a few considerations for something like this. Maybe another brainstorming session like last year. Maybe it becomes a regular thing to keep the shooters and the NRA High Power committee communicating for the betterment of both.

I've been on the phone with John Perkins for awhile discussing this idea and thread. We have agreed on a solution that I hope everyone will accept. John would like to donate the (21st Century Cups) to the 2 National AGG winners. Of course this is nothing official but it's recognition for a great achievement. If this is acceptable to everyone and with the permission of the powers in charge.

I'm good with that. It wasn't in the program. But we can always use this as food for thought. I'd also say if Mr. Perkins would like to donate a trophy for this years unofficial winners I say Kudos to him.

It's not time yet Dean, the offer was " with the permission of the powers in charge" only. We care very much about the sport as all of you do and John is a active shooter on the Open Team. I was willing to donate the "Yauger" cups out of pocket to supply the idea with a prize named after a lost supporter of the sport from our club. We decided on the " 21st Century Cups" for promotion purposes and to show Johns commitment to the betterment of the sport. When it "is time" then I'm sure NRA will provide a suitable trophy or we will renew the offer if needed.

Does all this super agg talk mean that people have given up on the idea of getting the midrange held separately at other clubs? I know that the NRA wanted a club to hold both for the next few years, but I still wouldn't mind the idea of shooting midrange at some other places.

Actually "all this" doesn't mean much of anything except a few of us making sense.
Strictly MR shooters won't like it.
Strictly LR shooters won't like it.
People that shoot one better than the other - won't like it.
Hide bound people - won't like it.
Wishy washy people won't like it - part of the time.
Type A personalities who can't figure out how to "lead" won't like it. (The rest of the type A's will be bumping into one another)
The NRA would rather take a poke in the eye with a sharp stick than change.

I don't really think you're in much danger.

Oh BTW, it could be done just as easily regardless of where they are held.
It's part of the upside of electronic record keeping. (computers)

It would actually be a slightly more accurate test of shooting consistency if they were held at different ranges at different times of the year.

One last addition to the list:
Old red-faced fat guys - we're all for it.

There's a lot of truth in that post Jim! I'm still laughing.

This old red faced fat guy says - I like it.

Better yet, You could combine the mid and long range agg of the Berger SWN along with the NRA nationals agg and crown the 'Shooter of the Year' .....
