For those that are practicing up for the 2000 yard match in Mt. , what group sizes are ya getting and at what distances? Troy

I shoot at the full 2000yds because anything else is compensating....and ever since G7 BC's replaced G1 my come-ups tables are off as much as 7mm (I do all my ELR stuff in mils and meters and front focal plane, cuz tactical)

My glass-bedded Savage ChiTackTickle with the pre-fit cut-rifled barrel chambered in the new 338 R&T (300's @ 3435fps!) is capable of 4"-6" groups at 2K (when I do my part) and with my new VorTec I can see bullet holes 84% of the time....plus with the new EXD Glass it sees around the curvature of the earth.........

well.....To be perfectly honest, I was just watching some videos on youtube, and this is what I WOULD DO and will do once I sell off my airsoft stuff and buy The Savage...

Ooops, hit the wrong FORUM!

sorry troy, just trying to get the ball rolling LOL

I've never shot 2K

But I do all my long range load work at 100 and 300 because that's where I can monitor the wind on my range....and even 300 is pushing it, for me.

Troy, I think the match will be the first time many shoot a group at that range. I have only went out to 1550 for a group with my edge. It was 7" for 3 shots. Hunting rifle, so I shoot 3. If I had to guess, if you could keep 5 around 10" at 2k Id say you would be tough to beat. And anything under 20" would have to be competitive.

If the weather cooperates next week I’m gonna try a couple of groups at 1600 with my 300 ultra and go from there. We mostly shoot steel at those distances and never tried a 5 shot group. Should be interesting or humbling, not sure which!! Probably both.....

humbling humbled but it will be fun wish I was shooting

Yup, my group was humbling at 1500 yards. It was the first 5 shot group I ever tried at that distance , I have work to do for sure.

Haha, get good on your home range, then travel 1500 miles to shoot in the opposite direction in totally diff terrain with way diff wind patterns. A 1mph full value wind change is 20". A slight gust of wind you did not detect is 10 feet.

Yup, im no pro but I’m gonna practice all I can. Im hoping to learn something and have fun.
I hope it didn't sound like I am either, even though I've done my share of shooting to 2K+
I've done it with a 338 snipetac and a 7 saum, the snipetac is long gone. We have targets at 2000 and 2075, the 2075 on a hill and easier to spot shots. With my 7 saum, 180 hybrid at 2960, if the DA drops to 5300 it's like clockwork, my bullet starts to tumble, and chasing a miss is comical. If I entered this shoot I'd be confident I could get hits on target. But if a serious cold front came through and shooting in heavy overcast, it would not even be wise for me to uncase my rifle.
I think my barrel is a 9tw, a faster twist may solve my issues.

Didn’t take that way at all, I just know there are many that will be way better than me at the 1k and 2k match( I have never shot a 1000 or 2000 match so they will be pros to me;)). My group had 4 shots hovering around 7 inches but one went low and took it to 17 inches overall. Work in progress I guess!

Did I just read you shot 4 into 7" and dropped one 10" low at 1500yds and you're MAKING APOLOGIES for it???

Lol well yea I guess it sounds like it. I’m figuring I need to shoot at least 1 Moa or better, but at 500 more yards I will be glad just to put em all on paper!! All new territory for me but gonna be fun:)

I can’t do 2k but have been able to shoot 2200 and 2500 testing CNC turned bullets for my 20mm and avg is 12” for just 3 shots at both distances. Anything under that I’m piercing 1/2” plates at the 1800 mark and it’s nearly going thru at 2200. This is hot roll steel I get at the local supplier.
