20 vartarg help

Looking for information on a bump gauge insert otherwise called headspace comparator? Wondering if anyone has the part # for the hornady insert? Could someone tell me if the necessary part comes in one of the kits? Could use some in factory chamberings as well but hoping I could kill two birds with one stone? Maybe it just needs a 30 degree angle? Also have 20 tactical maybe work for checking shoulder bump on it too? Thanks in advance!!

Maybe I’m trying to explain it poorly? I want to be able to accurately FL resize a couple thousandths smaller than fire formed cases. Just want to know I’m bumping some but not more than necessary? I’ll take a look at the video maybe it will answer my question? Thanks for your response

Those hornady inserts are a point of reference only. Yes they would be consistent between cases with “your” insert as it should go to the same point (diameter) on the shoulder every time. Now if I measure “your” case with “my” insert, it will be different as they are not super precise instruments. Find one that fits somewhere in the middle of the shoulder and call it good. If you are measuring an empty case the “8-30” seems good. It is designed for a .30 caliber bullet but fits this case good. If you need to measure a loaded round the “A330” should work.

Your referring to the bullet comparator when you say 30? Meaning for .30 cal projectiles? And having it bottom out at any point on the 30 degree taper? Wherever that happens to be. And use that as a baseline for determining push back? Am I understanding this correctly? I was under the impression that there was a specific 20 vartarg insert that I could zero out on a fired case then resize and check again that wasn’t a bullet comparator insert? Something that matches exact shoulder angle?

Something like the Sinclair #30 shoulder bump gauge except in a hornady kit? Maybe the Sinclair insert referred to above will fit in my hornady bullet comparator body? Designed for 30 degree taper up to 25 caliber. Sinclair also has a #30A for larger rounds with same taper? Anyone?

5 piece hornady kit has one that works with vartarg. Found what I needed in the Q&A responses from brownells/Sinclair representative to a customer like myself. Thanks for the reply’s

Yes you understand correctly. If there is a specific vartarg or fireball tool I have never heard of it.
