20 Sploder

3 shots 100 yd 32vmax over 4000 fps.
Keith Olson
That isn't as hot as some might think. I run LT32 in my 20 Practical (24" heavy A/R, 1-11" tw.) with those 32 V-Max and get 3,881 fps using 24.0 grains. I get an average of 8 loadings on the brass (Lake City). I get that same exact velocity of 3,881 using 22.2 grains H4198. I don't run mine to the max - so I know I could get 3,930 - 3,950 and still shoot hot weather - but powder capacity becomes a problem when seating beyond that.

When I had a 20P I had a IMR4198 load with 32vmax that was around 4170fps from a 26" AR barrel. Was pretty devastating on anything small and with a high liquid content, lol!

Yah. Got it. Thanks for playing. I am now officially stopping feeding the troll.

One thing I did like about Facebook was the BLOCK feature. "click" gone. Really nice feature. Unfortunately, these forums do not have it.
What do you gain over a ruger 204 if any ?

Not picking a fight with anyone but will throw out a couple of random thoughts. Not in any particular order but I'll start with this one.

I'm not sure what the NASA engineer or whom ever is making the statement that the bolt heads alone are rated to 150k psi.

I'll say this...I have yet to see any action/bolt stay together when you hit those numbers. It's coming apart somewhere somehow. I'll even lower that number down to around 120kpsi for a bolt gun....it's coming a part.

I've seen actual receivers split open/blown apart as well and not the lugs sheared off per say and probably won't but the lugs will get beat on and or where the back side of the lugs engage the receiver will start to get deformed from everything coming a part. Look at the attached pic....

Also when you start hitting around 80k psi you will start getting imprints from the case head into the bolt face as well. Not all the time but it will start to happen when you hit the 80k mark and higher on pressure.

thank you for your input thats some info that one can add to their reloading logs and avoid a lot of problems.

Thanks for posting that info about bolt head imprints at 80,000 psi.
When I bought my BI Centenial Ruger 77 in 220 SWIFT ,Ruger had TEST fired it and you could read on the bolt face, in brass, "W W 220 SWIFT" . I always wondered how hot their test loads were. Thanks again.

If your shooting for speed why not shoot a 22-250 AI and push the 34 gr at over 4600 FPS or a 22-6MM AI at over 4800 FPS if you can keep them together with a 1 - 14 twist
Brass, possibly? More powder, less barrel life? I know shooting is full of consumables.

What ever you want to call it, it's still a small increase and at equal pressure is good for about 100fps over the standard 223, BUT, the "improved" versions get the snot pushed out of them because the 40º shoulder and straight case hides pressure so, yes, you often hear of 2-400fps faster velocities with a 223AI.

"Have you ever HAD a 223 Ackley there fella?" Oh, you mean like this one? Only for about 15 years.

Yes, that rifle started life as a new Rem LTR 223 and shortly after purchasing it I dropped it off at my smiths and had him hang a new Hart barrel chambered in 223AI on it. Never was a fan of the finish Rem put on the LTR's so I had it Cerakoted black but I do like the slightly shorter forend of the HS Prec stock Rem used with them. I still have the factory barrel sitting on the shelf that is nearly new.
