20 Sploder

Sure is funny to see people bagging on someone for 3 pages for a statement I didn't even think was all that controversial and then Frank comes in and basically agrees with him and the thread dries up quickly. Things that make you go "hmmm...".

Nice shooting barrels OP. Currently shooting a 223AI and might look into a "sploder" down the line.

Maybe some people are too bored with the whole ridiculous thing to comment any further.

Yaaaawwwnnnnn...

:)

I have yet to see anyone at the range with strain gauges attached to their receiver.... Yet people still manage to do load workups every day without consulting with any engineering authority or governing body.

Goodness knows I have encountered some dubious loading practices... But let's not be hypocrites about our "expertise".

That's MY opinion on the matter.

And i have met a few dubious P. E.s

Custom built Remage and Savage barrels can down right shoot! At a price point that doesn't bust the bank for the average shooters.

I've got tons of pics from my former customers that all look just like those you're showing.

When I ordered the Wilson 20 cal blanks I had no idea what to expect. I owuld say they have far exceeeded my expectations. Keith said that the Spoder shoots whatever you feed it.

When the specs for the blanks match the specs from other high end blanks, then those cheaper blanks are treated just like those high end blanks.......generally you get high end results too. Providing the shooter does his part.

I used to build on even cheaper blanks than those and would get those same types of groups.

The barrels certainly wouldn't clean up like a hand lapped barrel, but they would definitely shoot like them.

I think it's the mentality of "it's a cheap blank" so we don't put as much effort into them as we would a high end blank. I've built some true 1/4" shooters from some blanks that no one would believe it came from. I was called a liar more than once......but they kept buying barrels!!! LOL!

I'm glad I'm retired now, but I do miss that work to be honest.

The Wilson is quite pretty on the inside. Very nice lapping. Cleans up great.

I think there is much barrel snobbery out there.

I must admit, that the Wilsons look better than some of the top tier cut rifle barrels...I have looked at more than a few.

For those that do not know, the Remington Bolt Body is NOT machined out of one piece of metal. The Bolt head is attached separately, and it made of a much tougher steel. Some of the Older Winchester bolts are made using the same technology. Ferris Pendell's would talk you to death about how some actions were much stronger than others, much centered on the material the locking lugs were made of.

There's no magic here, it's a simple matter of physics. Given a set parameter, case capacity, you can't get extreme velocity without pressure and you're running zero FB so you aren't gaining any usable case capacity by stretching the bullet out. In fact the zero FB will increase pressure which is exactly what the chronograph is showing you.

Just because the brass or primer isn't showing obvious signs of extreme pressure doesn't mean it isn't present. Again, in a set parameter such as this you can't get one without the other. It's common knowledge the more taper you take out of a case and you square the shoulder off like you've done here by blowing it out to a 40º shoulder it will hide the more obvious signs of pressure. As a gunsmith I'm sure you already know this.

How someone loads their stuff makes no difference to me. Run it and load to as hot as you want I don't care but when you come on a forum and post this kind of stuff with these really high velocities and don't want to recognize those velocities are being obtained because the pressures are extreme, well, I think that's at the least reckless.
Well Said Sir. WELL SAID

I'm a simple retired painter. l quickly learned ''Ask Shwewin Wlliams'' was GREAT advice. Same goes for bullet maker Loading Manuels too.
