20 cal guys

I had one Boom back when the 204 Ruger first came into being. Was testing unlisted powders and got a little too ambitious venturing up over 4,000 fps with Sierra 39gr BKs. The 4th bullet in a 5 shot group flew apart in the bore and all hell broke loose! Blew my 700 bolt face apart and the shrapnel came out of the muzzle in a shotgun pattern destroying the optical chronograph I was shooting thru. But at least I know where absolute max pressure is located! Lol!
But, we’re the primers flat? LOL

I don’t care for feces book myself.
All I did about 6-8 years ago was get on there to see about a match, what a mess IMHO. I need to shut the damn thing off, I still get people wanting to be “friends”. Call, text or email, hell stop by if ya want.

I got off of it last month-
No more spam calls- no more junk emails-
Sure is nice !!!!

Me and a buddy were talking about ordering 20-250 barrels for the berger 55gr. Seems we were born 15 years to late for the 20 cals

Never too late for 20caliber! I used a Benchmark 10 twist for my 20-250. I shoot custom 46.5 and 48 grain bullets. 4000 fps with H414 or 4350 is a mild load that feeds through the magazine like butter. 55's are not quite as accurate but not terrible in mine. If I wanted to shoot those I would go 9 twist. It's the pits to build a rifle for one bullet choice.

Varminter.com had a nice forum at one time too, but it hasn't been up awhile. At one time Eric said it would come back, time will tell. This forum has such a wealth of knowledge that there's really no reason to go elsewhere. All we need now is for Hornady to introduce a 20ARC with a 50 ELD-VT.Maybe a gun manufacturer will get onboard with a fast twist barreled gun and then the brakes would be off in the 20 caliber world. ;)
Thats a 20 beggs. Buit I agree

Yeah that’s the problem with 55gr. Kinda gotta twist a barrel specifically for them and usually running a bigger case like the 20 BRA. Can still shoot lighter bullets with a 9” twist but I would slow them down so jackets don’t fly apart when the barrel gets hot.

I usually just hit the easy button and go 11” twist. Good for anything up to 40gr which is the brunt of bullet choices out there

And if you slow down your 20BR to shoot 40 grain bullets you just reinvented the 204Ruger. 204R is THE BEST INVENTION for varmint shooting ever.

I’ll always miss Saubier, I didn’t frequent it a lot but when I had a question about the small stuff it was rich with info. I miss the Woodchuck Den too but I noticed Todd posted a “It’s sold” remark the other day so maybe new life will be breathed into it.

Just an FYI. Grafs has the 55s back in stock, they aren’t cheap but they are hard to get.

I’ve always enjoyed the 20 cals, started off with a 204, currently enjoying a 20-222 in a Tikka action and I just sent off a Ruger #1 for a new 20-222 barrel. Fun!

I have 1500 of the 55 Bergers, haven’t built the rifle yet but I will soon.

l fell into the 20CAL club by chance a couple of years back. Twas cruising on Gun Joker in the wee hours and spotted a Cooper 21 Phoenix in TAC20, fluted 26'' stainless for less than HALF the price of a new one! My hand was trembling when l hit the ''BUY NOW'' button. This thing is easy to load for. lts a true 4000fps gun with 32gr 20cal bullets. Sighted 2'' high @100yds, l can simply point and shoot! lt has all the pluses and none of the minuses of a 22-250 with HALF the recoil!

Missed a few wind calls the other day-
Fireforming 20BRAI brass with 39grBK

Brass sorted by velocity-
I know most haven’t thought of it-…this will be for a competition rifle

Working up a load for 20-221AI with 39gr BK-
20.1gr was a little hot-4030fps
I backed it down to 19.9gr LT32- did take a drop tube to get it in there- I stick with this 3986fps load… for the summer months..

Don’t be eyeballing my Starline brass… it’s great stuff!!!

I was clueless as to what fps I was shooting with my standard load in my 20-222. (23.0 gr. BLC2 & 32 gr VMax) It's mild and my brass seems to be lasting forever, so I was happy.

So a couple weeks ago I finally picked up a basic Caldwell Chronograph and my load is in the 3500's where I pretty much guessed all along. Now I'm even happier. I don't think the reward for "jacking it up" would be worth the trouble. jd
