185gr Juggernaut w/ RL15

Gents,

Anyone have any load data for the 185gr Juggernaughts with RL15 in the 308. I run lapua Palma brass and 450 primers.

I use 45.5 in Winchester brass. It shoots great. With Lapua brass I would start at 43 gr

I definetly agree with the above and would probably start around 42.5 grains. My peak load is 43.6 using RL15 and Varget. Anymore and it's too hot.

I am in the 2,700 + fps range.

Your running 2800 with a 185?

Not uncommon for F-TR rifles with 30 to 32 inch barrels with powders slower than Varget. I have run the 185s in the same neighborhood or faster with 2000 MR and VVN550. I've since backed down some because I was getting out of the node when it was hot. I'd be careful of working up a load like that with RL15, it has been reported to have pressure increases when it gets hot. I don't know what the poster above is getting for brass life but it commonly means you start losing primer pockets in the 5 to 6 reloads range.

No, Lesley said 2825-2850. I'm using H4895 in a 30" with the 185 getting 2790.

What twist rate you running?

I use a 12 twist. And like has been said you have to de careful with RL 15 if it gets hot outside. My load for Raton in September wont work in Texas in the summer. I am only getting 3 loads on Winchester brass. Varget would more than likey be a better powder. But I bought a few 40 pound kegs of 15 a couple of years ago.

I am useing Lapua small primer brass with varget and getting just over 2900. 32" 10 twist with f/tr reamer. Not going to say how much varget ;)

Over 2900 with Varget?.......Sounds a tad stout........ :o

I have a barrel that will do some wild things velocity-wise too. It is all in the dimensions ;)

If it's safe and not tearing up the brass I'm not too worried about what velocity my neighbor is getting.

That said, the rule book does specify that unsafe ammo is not to be fired.

Sadly, I spent my last match dealing with this very issue. One of the shooters on my target had to use a hammer to get the bolt open on almost every shot. After 3 relays of that nonsense, he finally decided to stop before he hurt someone.

It is incumbent upon all of us to be both good sports and equally mindful of the safety implications of our decisions. If something goes bad, not just the shooter will get hurt, your scorer, the shooter on either side of you etc. will get hurt.

My old load was 45.5 with large primer brass which was around 2850 or so. When I tried the small primer brass same load wouldnt shoot. Had to go 5 thousands jump from a 20 and more powder to get tight group. With my chamber I am not getting signs of over pressure and bolt lifts with a finger.I am running a Nat Lambeth bolt lift kit on my savage. I am going to use this load for 1k only.

If the bolt lift is good and it's not blowing primers, I'm not a bit worried about laying next to the rifle.

For that matter, the velocity means little to me. I shoot what I shoot because it shoots for me and meets my requirements.
