17HMR ammo question

I shoot a savage factory 17hmr. I was getting about 1/2-3/4" groups which is good enough for what I am doing. When I ran out of hornady 17 grain ammo my point of impact with other ammo is way off. I cant get hornady ammo out here. Anyone have luck with other brands? As with federal 210m primers I am going to buy a ton of this when its avaliable

I have also had luck with the CCI TNT 17 hollowpoint bullet,http://www.cci-ammunition.com/ballistics/rimfire.aspx).

But, my favorite, most accurate and deadly round in my 77/17,rebarreled with a Green Mountain barrel) is Hornady's 20 gr XTP bullet. It works better on groundhogs out to 200 yards that the V-Max or the CCI TNT.

I can typically keep a 5 shot 1.5" group at 200 yards with good conditions using the XTP.

Buckshot, I agree with johnsopa. I use the 20 gr XTP. It seems to not fall in energy or velocity after 100yds like the 17 grainers. It is a much better killer than the 17 grainers also. I have an armadillo problem, we live in the country )and have shot them with both the 17s and 20s and their is no comparison, the 20s are way more effective.

I have a Savage 93 heavy barreled rifle in .17HMR that loves the Hornady 17 grn. rounds. I've tried CCI & Reminton but the Hornady ammo. wins hands down for accuracy.

Thats the same rifle ammo combo thats working for me. If I could only get that ammo. No stores around here have any. It seems like someone with deeper pockets and the same taste lives out here. As soon as the stores get 17 grain hornadys and federal 210m primers someone goes in and empties the shelves.

anecdotely speaking, I have heard that savage really prefers 20 grainers, have you tried any of these yet?
