17 Tactical Loads???

If you go the TK route please stress starting low and working up. I am in no way bashing TK, I talk to him all of the time and greatly respect his knowledge. His loads though are HOT, I and several people have a hard time if ever reaching his listed loads. So please stress load reduction and safe powder handling. Adam

Don't know about the 17Tac, but my 17MachIV shoots the 30golds real well with 17.6gr of re10x at over 3800fps with no pressure signs. The 30golds are an unbeleivable bullet for their size on coyotes.

rifleman700--My brass was the .20 Tactical Lapua brass from Dakota. The primer I use is the Remington 7½. All powder charges thrown with the RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 and final weighing done on a Denver Instruments MXX-123. My 30 gr. gold bullets were coated with WS2. I used 24.5 gr. of N-540 for my fire forming loads and that worked pretty good. I used the fire forming loads for prairie dog shooting and they were very accurate.

I turned the neck walls on the brass to .01355" to .0136" thick. Once I had the casings fire formed I switched to Varget and wound up using 24.6 gr. of Varget and the average muzzle velocity is 3,792 fps. I'd like to be getting 3,850 to 3,875 fps with these projectiles, but they just don't shoot worth beans at much above 3,800 fps.

I know you didn't ask about the 25 gr. V-Max, but I used WS2 coating on these bullets and my fire forming load was 24.5 gr. of N-540. The Remington 7½ primers were used. I shot a lot of prairie dogs with this combination too.

After the casings were fire formed I started using a load of 24.4 gr. of Varget. Average muzzle velocity was around 3,835 fps or so.

Edited to add: This rifle was built on a Remington 700 BDL action that had been blueprinted. It has a Jewell trigger adjusted to 1 pound of pull. My barrel is a stainless steel 26" Lilja and is one of their off-the-shelf Remington Varmint contour barrels with a 1 in 9" twist and four grooves. Here's a photo of the rifle alongside a recipient of a 30 gr. Kindler Gold from my .17 Tactical.
