130 Nosler RDF and 260

Hi guys, I’ve searched this topic but haven’t found much for positive reviews.

Has anyone had good experiences with the 130 RDF in a 260?

Let me hear it if you’ve shot these.

I have not, but i have been shooting 100 grain Lapua scenar ! They are light but they are long, almost as long as a 139 grain scenar! Anyway they are amazing. Tiny group's you wouldn't believe. Sorry no info on rdf. But thought maybe this would be of interest.

I have shot them in .260 and 6XC. They like to be shot hard and can be touchy on seating depth, but not so bad that you grow tired of fooling with them. They tend to shoot a bit high, 1-2 clicks on my mil/mil scopes out to 700, then they hold to data. That said, they are not consistent in performance as far as consistent group sizes go. If you just want to hit steel they are ok, for match shooting I believe there are better bullets.

This right here is what I’m looking for. Exactly what I’m going to use them for.

Any experience with the listed BC?

Thank you!

Xs, I did not run a full BC test. That said, I think it is a tad higher due to my elevation gains at speeds. If you shoot them fast they do well, but as I said they are good for steel and such.

Thank you!

I’m going to try these and some JLKs in a 260 that just doesn’t want to shoot very well.

It’s probably the operator but maybe the rifle and I can find a bullet we agree on.

I tried for 300 bullets to get the 140 gr RDF's to shoot in my 260. I tried everything you can think of but couldn't get repeatable acceptable results. I tried 130 gr Berger VLD's and had a stellar load after about 50 rounds of testing.

I’ve heard this often about the RDFs. However this particular gun I tried shooting the 140 Berger vld. Went through 2 full boxes and never had anything work. Switched to the 142 Sierra and started getting better results.

Hopefully this one also likes these Noslers.

Same issue with wifes 260,
I went to 130 ar hybrids shoots em great.
Tried 129 ablr
140 vld
140 amax
Puzzling thing through the process was it shot factory nosler decent enough to hunt with.

The 130 and 140 JLK’s both have a wider seating depth window than the equivalent Berger VLD’s. The JLK’s are also shoot well with more jump.

It seems that the RDFs are hot garbage in every caliber. I have yet to hear anyone say that they are a consistent performer. I have tried them in .223, 6CM and .308 all with the same results. 3 rounds would nearly go in the same hole and then 2 mysterious fliers or just a string of fliers...never consistent. Once I did more research my results were far from atypical, everyone else had the same results.

Maybe I am the outlier, but I am on my second box of 6.5 140 RDF's and am happy with them. I don't have an issue with fliers. I did find them picky about seating depth. I am not running them hot. Have been using them for 600 yd F-Class with no issues. As has been said, there are a lot of shooters that have found issues with them (fliers).

Well the 130s arrived last night so I went and shot a 5 shot group. I also shot two 5 shot groups with my 142 Sierra.

I shot three really nice 4 shot groups.....the shooter was kind of cold in old ND last night and couldn’t quite get settled in any of the groups.

However the RDFs shot very well. I didn’t get much speed on the one load I tried but oddly enough it was a little warm of load. tried IMR 4350

I think they have potential.

However I’ve finally gotten this gun tuned with the 142s so I may not be switching.

They shoot fine for me on steel targets out to 1100yd, as does the 140Eldm; the high bc for both help significantly to buck the wind. For small groups the 123 Scenar beats both of them, but with more wind sensitivity. Due to different benefits I continue to shoot all of them, fortunately with the same zero at 100yd.

+ 1 on the Berger 130g AR Hybrids (not in a 260, in a 6.4x47), shoot consistently, easy to get seating depth that shoots, settled on load/ seating combo 30 rounds.

Prime 260 ammo uses the 130 Norma Golden Target bullet (Norma's Diamond Line is same bullet, but Moly coated). I shoot that bullet in my custom 260 Rem and it is an excellent bullet. I tried several in the 140 class, but my rifle has a short(er) throat, so settled on the 130. Have found the loads are very similar to the 130 Berger VLD, but not exact (usually w/in a couple tenths of a grain). The Berger 130s also shot extremely well for me, but the Normas are significantly less expensive, and slightly higher BC. I have not tried them on game, but all reports are the Normas do not perform well. Will probably look to the AR Hybrid for a hunting load. Hope this helps.

I had the same results - I don't push them hard either, average velocity for mine to shoot consistent groups was 2560 FPS. Didn't really fiddle with the seating depths though either.

140RDF .060” off, 260Rem. It’s a long bullet, throated the barrel to increase the freebore because of pressure issues. Barrel had 3300 rounds before throating so was worth trying.
Consistent at 600yds. Prefer 142SMKs, never tried any Berger 6.5s.
