1035 yard bear

Well, being an old farm boy and hunting for many years....we bleed, gut, and skin immediately...including hunting debone and pack it out. Your bear is whole and complete with skin on...tells me all I need to know..and that is a fact. Just drove over an thew it in the truck look... hunter.
Hope you eat it all...and the dogs get none...bear is not tasty even when properly care for.
I obviously do not support long range killing of big game...for many obvious reasons. But the insistent bosting and photos catch the attention of those who shut down such activities. It happens each year...millions of acres shut down. "They" find a way, endangered species is one for PDs, Yearly Coyote calling competition shut down. Huge fines for unclear hunting laws, especially with respect to minor in possession of a firearm in the field, no ectronic gagets, no sent, guns, vehicles, and roads, no dogs for bear and cougar, no bait plus a host of others. It's only a matter of time and big game sniping has gone... too far...no atta boy...just disdain. As arrogance and boastful pictures posted, in the end, that will ruin it for all. They are watching, safety, ethics, responsibility to care for the "harvested animals" counts. Paint a different picture..if you care to continue, and without a gory pictures of a dead animals. They already hate you...I may be a PITA but I'm mostly on your side...just like to limit the distance...like a self imposed abortion distance issue, without all the grotesque dead pictures and all the bosting about how long you went before termination. He who can not harvest inside 500 yds is a very poor hunter...and has no hunting skills...right after hunting season I drove my truck into a herd of 12 to 15 elk the closest cow was about 15 yards...she stopped chewing and starred at my truck with 3 guys in it..
Just the facts, time will pass, none of it matters...nothing you accomplish will be remembered, most of which has already been done...and you don't write history...like the now love, than to hate, history of George Washington is now evolving, and being rewritten.
I'll bet you're just a barrel of fun at a party.

The OP has a ‘delete thread’ option at the top of page one if he chooses to exercise his right. I’ve deleted many threads I started just for the simple reason that some pecker head can’t stay in his lane and I don’t want to hear the BS.

Your response is very revealing...you can not handle realty, logical thinking, and the truth, through the dark cloud of selfishness and self identity.
Too bad there are others, boasting and promoting these unethical hunting practices. It's all about you, and not the big game animals, I find that appalling.
You have to choose to shoot the unethical 1000 yd shot, when you could walk, drive, or horseback, easily to within shooting distance...but you chose to highlight yourself...look at me aren't I great.
No, you are actually an egotistical, unethical shooter of big game, who chose to be that way.
Not a hunter, in any stretch of my imagination, not even close...never even tried to hunt...just a shooter, presented no hunting skills, and little respect for big game ...you shared nothing but how pathetic and small your hunting skills are. So no matter how tall your stories get, or how many excuses you throw out...you will always be a pathetic shooter with no hunting skills...I bow hunted for 10 yrs...ever heard of stalking big game? Part of hunting....might try it some time, more enjoyable too, and get the real experience of ...hunting.
This reminds me of a favorite song. Ramblin`Man. Jeff

To the clowns here who know nothing about prairie dogs from a mile to 2 miles and say you can't see them or hit them be careful about yapping about something you obviously know nothing about. By the way numerous kills on prairie dogs with a factory model 70 stealth 308, between 1000 and 1400 yards. You just need to get off your asses and put the time in!!!

Great shot on the bear!!

I'd enjoy watching you shoot a Prairie Dog @ 2 miles .

We have numerous kills from one mile to 2300 yds. We were never lucky enough to kill anything at 2 miles. I took our bullet 9 seconds to get to 2 miles and as we all know prairie dogs don't stand still very long. And yes numerous kills with the 308 from 1,000 to 1400.

Never lucky. Interesting. Explains much.

1035 yds speaks of desparation, most of all a poor decision. No respect for wildlife. In my humble opinion.
I once felt similarly. I have witnessed what a very capable shooter can accomplish. I have more faith in them than 95 % of the average 250 yard deer hunters. Working at a range, I witness what the vast majority of hunters are capable of, NOT MUCH.

So, my feeling is don't judge.

Now that is some funny stuff Bojo, I don’t care who you are! You are smooth as a cucumber at harvest time when nailing down the coyotes at 1000 yards at Ridgway VBR. Was that beads of sweat coming off your forehead or tears of joy coming out of your eyes after hitting 10 in a row at 1K?
I wish I could hit a 10.
Best for is 8/10.
I get in my own head and break concentration

It’s been interesting following this thread. Every once in a while, something comes up that I really enjoy following. This is my opinion. I guess we are still free to have an opinion, aren’t we? Some will no doubt agree, and some will no doubt disagree, not here to change anybody’s mind.
As long as it is lawful and safe in your state for long range shooting and that’s the style you choose I don’t have a problem with it. I like long range woodchuck hunting.I’ve had very few opportunities to shoot anything larger at distance. In my 49 years of hunting here in my part of Pennsyltucky, I have seen and heard the unbelievable. By far the vast majority of the “thundering herd orange clad brigade” out in deer season only handle their rifles maybe a week before the season and most only a day or two before. I believe archery hunters in general do put on average more practice in then rifle shooters. But with the advent of the legalization of crossbows in our state guys are attempting shots they should not, and not practicing nearly enough because they think they’re shooting a scoped rifle, not all of them, but an awful lot that I talk to think this way. It’s very common to shoot a deer in rifle season with a wound from an arrow or an actual arrow part still in the deer. And the orange brigade hillbillies with their deer rifles, unbelievable, wow just wow. A lot of guys don’t follow up shots or put nearly the effort into finding the animal that they should. I have seen a number of three legged deer running like a banshee through the woods during gun season. I saw a picture of a buck shot years ago with both front feet blown off and it was still motoring, true story.I personally have walked on to a number of deer shot in rifle season and laying there for days, unclaimed. Then you have the guys that have bought into the “Creed Kool-Aid”. Stories of them shooting at deer at what they call long range and hearing the response of “I got a piece of it anyway”.

I will end this way, If I was the target of opportunity, deer, bear, elk, etc. I would much rather soon have the author of this thread take a poke at me and hit me in the correct spot than some of the above described. It sounds like he has put the time and effort into his desired hunting preference and knows when to take the shot and when to wait. Nice shot.

Your quote “Now pilgrim are you sure you can skin grizz?” is from one of my favorite movies. My son and I saw it in the theater I think around 1972. I bought the VHS tape and we watch it the day before buck season ever since. the VHS died and we have it on DVD now. 40 years straight!

Amen men brother!!! I remember going to see the movie at the Oil City Drake Theatre when it came out, I do believe 1972 or 73. I’ve never been the same sense.:) I wore out my VHS also and ended up with a DVD. I usually watch the movie twice a year occasionally three times, I just don’t seem to get tired of it. I used to think I would make a great mountain man, but in reality, I probably wouldn’t last 10 hours! Great movie I love the scenery, the storyline, and all the one-liners. My next trip out to Cody Wyoming I will be sure to look up his gravesite he is buried there.

Ray123…..just drove over and threw it in the truck my ass! Where I had to go to get that bear out…..well, let’s just say very very steep and nasty……believe me, I would have caped it and butchered it and packed it out IF ALLOWED BY PA LAW…..They are starting to get a little forgiving on bear, but it’s still a grey area…we cut up and pack out all our deer in Pa and Maryland that way. FYI….the PA game commission has complemented us on our taking of game, ( long range hunting and still hunting ), they have often told us “ you guys deserve every trophy you get …..,guys just don’t hunt as hard as you all do any more up here…..etc…..let me ask you a question……how far is an unethical shot on a deer archery hunting?

Elk don’t how many feet a horse has

There was a “Mountain Man” that the movie was lightly based on. “Liver Eating Johnson”. I to thought I’d like to have been a “Mountain Man” but like you said probably wouldn’t have lasted 10 hours.
