1000yd bench stocks

i am looking to build a new 1000yd lite bench gun and trying to figure out what stock i want on it. i was thinking of going with a laminate but don't know which brand. i was looking at the richards microfit and the shehane tracker. if anyone has any sug please any info would help.

I have had good luck with Shehane's stocks, plus Bill is pretty good about donating prizes for alot of different matches

You might want to try Joel Russo, he cuts a really nice tight precision inlet, and usually has a 4-5 week wait thats well worth it...

I use West Custom Rifles,Richards of Virginia, not Richard's Microfit of California). Greg West bought Richard Franklin's,Virginia) stock business and has done a fantastic job since doing so. Since I have used his, I won't build any gun with out one. I did order one of the Surgeon rifle specials,it was a price I couldn't turn down). The laminants that come from West are in my opinion going to be very hard to beat. He is doing another one for me now. 540-890-9245

I would avoid Richard's Microfit,of California) stocks. These are NOT the same as the West Stocks based on Richard's Custom Rifles,of VIRGINIA) designs. The microfit stocks come very rough on the outside and often the inletting is sub-standard -- the worst of both worlds, not enough wood removed in barrel channel and too much wood hogged out around the action, requiring restoration work with epoxy and filler.)

Cat shooter,
I let him do the inleting and finishing. He does it for a living and does a fine job. To me it is worth the money.

Andy

You might want to check out Dave Tooley's stocks also. He doesn't have a website, but there's a nice write-up on one of his latest in the bulletin archives here.

Hey Cat,
Here are a few pics of Greg's inlet on his rifle stocks. All are done on the mill for true cuts.

Andy...

Did you you get an inletted blank, or a finished stock from West's.

If it was an inletted blank, how's the inletting in the West/Richard stocks?

I was talking to Richard, before he sold the stock business) about getting a few, and then he sold it.

... I have bought "inletted" stocks from some makers that were nothing but a router run down the middle of the blank, and a square hole where the action went. That's too primitive for me. :,
