100 yard (real world) repeatable accuracy for 22 LR

I'd call one of the outfits that specialize in match .22 rimfire equipment and order a box of ammo from Lapua in several different lots that are at least 20 fps apart. This is the cheapest way to see what your barrel is capable of - finding quality ammo that will shoot on a different vibe. Record which velocity was best so that you know what your rifle likes. I'd do that before buying a tuner or thinking of another barrel. Seems your barrel might have possibilities. Good Luck!

Sub 1" is certainly possible. I shot this target at 100 yards, off a Caldwell rest, with a rear bag. Used an Anschutz 1813 and CCI Std Velocity. (I normally shoot Lapua CenterX at 50 yards, this was just for fun)

The only ,22 I've seen that can go under an inch at 100y with reasonable consistency is a CZ 455 Trainer my friend built with a Lilja barrel and a Golden Eagle scope. And using Lapua Midas or Center-X is will often go/usually go under an inch-- at an INDOOR range.

So, given that optic and barrel and ammo-- I don't see getting under an inch at 100 outdoors as reasonable in any way with any .22LR.

I have seen several sub MOA .22s at 50y outside. NONE outside at 100y.

I'm sure there are people out there who can claim it, maybe even some that can back it up. But I've never seen it, for what that's worth.

Was at range on a dead calm day With Cooper LVT front rest no rear bag 100 yards.
Everything we feed grouped around 1.00 until we tried RWS R50.
We started getting .625 to .75.
You have to use quality ammo and find what your rifle likes.

I suggest finding the best lot based on accuracy, then chronograph it , as speed listed on the Eley box for example, is not likely to be what you get out of your rifle. Allows you to scan through various brands to find lots that are a close match. Agree that scanning +- 40 fps off your best ammo speed is plenty useful. If your tune at a given distance is perfect, you may find everything goes into one hole across a 40 fps spread. Seymour

I bought a Tikka T1X and bedded it to a Bell and Carlson M40 stock. I have shot about 20 brands of ammo from cheapies to 11$ a box and have yet to be blown away with 100 yard accuracy. I have been blown away with some 50 and 60 yard accuracy so I feel like I am probably asking for more than might be possible.

I think I am probably expecting too much and before I drop any money on a custom barrel I would like to know what you guys have seen. My goal simply put is to get at or under MOA at 100 yards, preferrably 10 shot groups. So far I have shot several 5-10 shot groups that will measure about 1.25 tall and 1.5-1.75 wide. One of the stand outs was Eley Target and surprisingly this gun seems to shoot cheap ammo well. It shoots cheap Blazers amazingly well also... which is strange.

So do I look at a better barrel? What about barrel tuners? Am I chasing a myth and should I just be happy with what I am shooting now?

Whats the boards experience?
I didn't read through all of the responses so if this has already been stated I apologize for being redundant. If you are shooting a rimfire at 100 yds without wind flags you might as well save your ammo. Good equipment is essential but wind rules when shooting rimfire

I agree. The point I made in recording the velocity had nothing to do with the velocity actually attained in the rifle - but to order additional lots of ammo with the same labeled velocity as that tried. No one expects the velocity on the boxes of ammo to be what they get with it in their own rifles - it is what was recorded in the test rifle.

Need to attend a few long-range and extreme long-range rimfire matches, you may be surprised how small of targets are shot at those distances consistently.

Try reading wind conditions at 200, 300, 400 yards and beyond with no sighter shots. First shot counts for score, scores have improved a lot from when I first started my matches, even the targets that most thought were luck to hit are being cleaned regularly now.

My matches start up second weekend of April (weather permitting) here in Eastern Ohio if anyone wants to try it.

This was a guest day on 8th March at my club, only on the 50m lanes, but winds about 16mph (plus gusts), no flags, just having fun.

Rifle is an Anschütz 2013 shooting RWS R50

Don’t get me wrong, I certainly cannot do that every time - I don’t have the concentration or the blood pressure - but what’s important is that the kit can (if everything is set up and matched correctly).

I shot the setup off a borrowed sand bag a few months ago and it loved it - something to do with the damping it seemed.

My club shoots 22lr at Bisley at 300 yards and we often annoy the sling shooting .308 brigade by posting higher scores than they do.

Have fun

I had a Tikka T1x great gun! I pillared and bedded the action, lightened up the trigger and with SK pistol match I would average 1.15 -1.25 MOA ten shot groups At 100 yards. I now have a Bergara B14R did the same pillared, bedded, trigger and with SK pistol match average .75 -1.15 MOA groups at 100 yards

i give the difference to the bolt design the Bergara has lugs that lock as in a Rem 700 the Tikka does not, so rebarreling may help a bit but will not achieve what your after in my humble opinion.

You are asking $$$$ performance out of a $600 gun, there are a few manufacturers out there that guarantee sub MOA at 100 yards but they are over the $1,000 marker. Vudoo, RimX, Lithgow, Anschutz are a few providing you use there required ammo which is $12+ a box

It's doubtful than any .22LR rifle maker guarantees sub-MOA at 100 yards, especially ten-shot groups.

None of the rifle manufacturers referred to above guarantee results with "there required ammo" because they don't have such ammo. They can only strongly recommend that shooters test different lots of match ammo to find the lots that perform best.

Invariably, what's required for excellent performance at 100 yards are three things. First, a capable rifle/barrel. Second, is very calm conditions or excellent reading of wind flags. Third, and most important, is suitable ammo.

The last part of the trifecta is often the most challenging to find.

Not 100 yards but this is a test i have been doing at 150 yards. Cz 457 mtr stock rifle hair over 2 pound trigger, bipod and rear bag. Each 6 five shot groups includes cold clean bore shot in the first box shot. 3 different types of ammo used. Each ammo test was shot on a different day with different conditions. None of this ammo is lot tested. Shot outside Screenshot_20211109-053508_Gallery.jpg
