Looking for something light on recoil and long barrel life, with plenty of accuracy!

Specify type of Benchrest Competition.......Group or Score? There really is not much to argue about.
Handsdown in Group is the 6 PPC
In Score it's 30 BR for VFS (Varmint for Score)......for the 6 power classes: Hunter Class and Varmint Hunter Class there is no one cartridge dominating......but they are all wildcats of some sort.
While not as light recoiling as the 6PPC, the 30 BR will generally get double the Competitive barrel life.

Unless you are interested in Hunter or Varmint Hunter my recommendations are 30BR or 30BR or 30BR. Easiest to load for, hands down; best barrel life, hands down; most forgiving and tolerant of little nuances, hands down. 30BR or bust!!!

Get a 17 or 18 twist barrel with .330" neck, fill the case with H4198, seat a 110- to 118-gr. custom bullet -- and enjoy.

Very easy. Dies are readily available, it's very forgiving, and don't seem as temperamental to weather changes.
Yes, just neck up the 6br brass. Some folks even shoot 6br loaded ammo out of there 30br barrel and it's instantly fire formed and they claim excellent results.. (i have not tried it).

Thanks! How about recoil on the 30BR?? I want something that is pretty low on recoil.

Recoil is very tame, if your setup is good free recoil is not a problem. There have been some 30br shooters win in group shooting as well so you gain in score and don't give up much in group. 17 twist is most common, I like the slower 18 twist since I like the light bullets in
a .925 jacket.

I agree. If you want the "best" for one or the other your going to need to pick one (group or score). However, you wont embarrass yourself shooting a PPC in score or a 30BR in group. They are both fine cartridges. Or do as Wayne suggest and go the switch barrel route.

Just keep in mind that the world record agg for group was was shot woth a 30br and we know they haven't been around near as long as the ppc.

If you ate shooting NBRSA or IBS group, do yourself a favor and build a dedicated 10.5 lb rifle in 6PPC. There is plenty of time to swim against the current later if you want to. Starting out, you need to spend your time learning to read the wind.

If you are shooting NBRSA or IBS Varmint For Score, do yourself a favor and build a dedicated 13.5 lb rifle in 30BR. Same rationale.

If you are shooting UBR, the jury isn't in. My recommendation would be a 13.5 lb PPC in a long range kind of stock. UBR doesn't have the stock profile rules that the two aforementioned orgs have.

If you are shooting HBR, I'm out of my element and can't tell you much. My first thought would be a 30-6.5x47 Lapua because I'm a weenie about forming brass. The HBR game scares me to death...I like light recoil and high mag scopes...

I'd like to shoot in the heavy varmint class.....13.5lb class if I named it right.

If I kept things really simple for reloading....would a 6br be a logical choice? I'm not looking to win national shoots here....maybe go to a few state level here and there and sit at home and punch paper!

If you want to be competitive.......finishing somewhere other than the bottom of the match results.........NO.

XSWanted...Your best bet is the 6ppc...low recoil easy to reload for...brass can be purchased ready to shoot from Ron Hoehn..bullets from several custom bullet makes...an easy no nonsense load is 27.5 grains of H322 under a 66 grain flatbase bullet...buy a 10.5lb light varmint rifle (used) and shoot it in the 13.5lb Heavy Varmint class also...you will be at NO dissadvantage...it will also shoot score very well...
I would prefer it over the 6BR if you really are serious...

In fact if you want a top of the line ready to shoot rifle...Skeetlee...on this forum has a killer rifle for sale at a very reasonable price..
