Most used,favorite) bullet for 100-300

In your opinions, what are the most popular and used bullets for 100 to 300 yard target shooting in 6mmBR? Same thing for 300 and beyond. Thanks.

Please suggest or recommend your three favorite bullets.

And, if you can't help yourself, throw in your favorite long-range pills as well.

I have a 1:10 twist that loves the 95 BIBs. Is shoots pretty good in the 100-300 yds and longer. I have a 1:8 that I shoot the 105 Berger VLDs and 107 SMKs for longer distances.

What twist is your barrel? tiny

For the shorter distances: Berger 68 gr. Match, consistantly the most accurate in my 6ppc and 6BRs.

Even with 1:8 twist? and do you change powders to push them? what do you use?

66 grain Fowler, 68 grain Fowler, 80 grain Fowler. Just take you pick between the 66 and 68 grain bullets. The 80 grain bullets shoot well in a 12 twist for intermediate ranges.

Wes: Shilen and Hart barrels, both with 1-14 twist, get the 68 Berger with 30 grs. of N133, my first load choice for the local BR G'Hog matches, to a maximum of 300 yds. A Savage 1-9.25, originally a 243, re-chambered to 6BR, with a 1-9.25 is fed the 85 gr. Sierra HPBT 'GameKing', Varmint bullet but performs like a match). The Savage is 'good', but not match capable, so a Hart 1-8 is presently being chambered for the 85 to 107 bullet weights. Over the years, tried the 87 V-Max in 243 Win., 6mm22-250 and the Savage, but could not get it to perform, although I know others have been successful with it. Will give it another try with the new Hart 1-8. Tried Varget powder, and while very good, get more consistant results with N133, for lighter wts) and N135 for the 'mid-weights'. First powder choice, for the 'heavies' will once again be Varget. 6BR remains my #1 favorite ctg.:)

68gr and 80gr Berger's in a 1x13 twist with vv 135. with the 1x8 twist i have had good luck with 108 gr Berger's and varget powder.

Joe,
I know you like those Fowlers. I'll see you in June down there in Tomball if I can get my 6br going. I have the fast twist, so I'm not so sure how I'll do, but I'm coming to give it a try anyway. Just got to get my bolt back from Greg Tannel, and it's time to start on the loads. it's only 6 weeks, so not sure how far I'll get.

Frank,
I have not been able to find any 108's... so I'm starting with 105 A-max's. I hope to get it going soon.

Ben,

My perspective comes from prone shooting competition only, and therefore, this information will be dedicated to the heavier bullets.

Sierra's 107 has been my favorite choice at 300Y/300M. It shoots just as well as the Berger 105BT and 108BT. No diffrence in group size either and same X-count. This one is a no brainer.

Another choice for 300M is the excellent Berger 95 BT. It goes a little faster too, accurately. It is one of Norma's bullet choices. Can they be wrong ?

For 600 yds, the Sierra 107 does very good, with very good X-count. The Berger 105 and 108 BT will do just as well, with a very small edge to the 108. Under a 'good conditions' day, they will all achieve excellent and comparable accuracy. On a 'not so forgivng day', I will go with my trusty old Berger 105 VLD, touching the lands, end of story.

All my barrels are 30', 1-8' twist and .272N. Some are Kriegers 4 L/G, and some are Broughton 5R. All will shoot jut as accurate, 1/4 MOA. One of them has a Benchmark 27', 6 L/G, barrel that is not givng me the expected performance I hoped for. So far, it prints 1/2 MOA wih the Sierra 107s. I need more time with this one to figure it out, but time is always an issue. Which means, always go with the proven first. Then, if you have the time, and financial capabilities, go ahead and go crazy experimenting.

If you are planning to shoot matches, you won't go wrong with any of the above, Varget powder,29.5 - 30.0gr) and Fed Match primer,or CCI BR-4). Keep it simple, it pays.

Hope this helped some.

Andy
