10-22 Reciever Upgrade Worth It?

I am waiting on a scope for my 10-22 and I am doing some pondering... I have a Kidd barrel in a factory OEM receiver. How much accuracy is there to gain in going from a stock, Ruger receiver to a higher-in receiver?

Thanks!

Andy

No. A good barrel with the right bullets is all you need. Go with a Feddersen barrel. I would get a Kidd trigger though.

That’ll depend, if Ruger plucked you one of the good ones from their pile of receivers then you’ll gain nothing by going to the aftermarket.

I'm afraid that you are wrong. How can you properly bed a rifle that has one action screw? You need the extra screw on the rear tang.

Butch, In this particular instance I'm afraid you are wrong to assume it cant be done. There are several methods with stellar outcomes. In the case of using two action screws, an aftermkt action with integral rail (Al), or stainless action would offer increased rigidity over the factory job and theoretically top results with heavy bbl if free floating it is desired. There will be a couple on the line tomorrow running ABRA unlimited class with single screws which give good account. Seymour

I have had both, single and double action screws, threaded barrel and non threaded barrel. If you get the right barrel and set up, you will see no difference. Been there done that many times.

Anybody’s 10/22 receiver can be machined to accept a Kidd rear tang.

Don't believe that I indicated otherwise.
shooter65, if it works for you, go for it. I understand right barrel, but what does right setup mean?

Seems folk that have one shooting consistently well and it uses a single action screw for some reason they like to insist that the barrel is fully floating only failing to mention an inch or two length of bedding underneath the barrel located just forward of the v-block. They’ll bed around the back and underneath at the rear of the receiver, don’t say anything about what’s underneath the barrel preventing the barreled action from teeter-tottering over the action screw, and bed the front of the receiver where there’ll be a pillar installed for it to sit on and surrounding the lone action screw. The bedding will be such that a lightly torqued TD screw places the barreled action under zero stress, and so nothing stock or bedding comes into contact with the v-block.

You have to ask??? :)

Yes sir, I have to ask! Answer the question, what does the right setup mean? I'm sorry if it upsets you, but I would like to know. You indicate that you have the answers.

^^^^ I am not upset at all Butch.^^^^^ ;D

Be happy buddy. Nor do I choose to debate this any longer. i gave my opinion, now I am done. Have a good day. :)

Do you need to upgrade the receiver to make a 10/22 more accurate - Not if you are using a slip fit barrel.
I've posted this pic a couple of times already

But, if you upgrade to a screw in barrel why not upgrade to an MOA receiver.

Well I'm no expert and have never been shy about parting with money when it comes to firearms. I have a Volquartsen 9tw barrel and bolt, Kidd trigger and Arcangel stock. Everytime I think about upgrading the receiver I think to myself, you watch one hole just get bigger at 50 yards when using Eley Match EPS ammo and can pick out staples on the backstop and knock them out dang near 100% of the time so what do I stand to gain? JMHO

If everything is working, there is no reason to go changing it.. i say you have one that is like that.. but if a person don't have anything, then bell curve says to go with is known to perform the best for the dollar invested, not saying that one has to spend big bucks to get there, but going down a rabbit hole on the cheap side can come out more costly than going with is a tad more. But spending the dollars isn't always the rule! i know a guy that has a CZ built sporter that just makes folks cringe if he were to show up at a match.. he ain't got a lot in it.. and it wins with Wolf ammo to boot.
