10-22 Reciever Upgrade Worth It?

I have a AMT stainless action threaded barrel in Mcmillan STC fiberglass bedded stock. Shoots lights out. I had a Clark custom tuned Ruger 10/22. Also shot lights out. Cool little repeaters.

I have a kidd barrel, and Kidd receiver, rear tang screw..

Yeah it shoots well, better than any factory 10/22. I think a lot of it is in the barrel quality. Helps when things line up well. Aftermarket stuff will hold tighter tolerances I think... every bit helps...

But it depends how good your receiver is, how square everything is...

I am seriously thinking about letting Joe Chacon buld a 10/22 for me.. from what i have gathered after talking to him on the phone, he does not care for a "stainless" receiver. Saving my ducks now so hopefully this winter i can get it done.

I emailed Joe about a receiver some months back. He replied that his guns didn't have a threaded receiver, and he didn't think they helped at all. He also stated that some of the guns he built used Ruger receivers, and didn't show any loss of accuracy. I think instead of listening to the internet wantabees Ill listen to the national champ.

Ruger or aftermarket bolt?. Receivers were made to use Ruger parts - aftermarket needed fitting
Ruger first then VQ Cant remember grinding or not for VQ. Like the threaded receiver but am running Ruger rec with VQ comp bolt, Kidd trigger,40X cast off barrel slip fit with shims between barrel and draw extension. Holds POI.

i am going to use the barrel that i have, it is an HS Precision that was chambered Karl Kenyon, but prob will not be able to save the chamber.. but should be able to save the length.. cuz the threaded part will shave down.. Joe C says that he could hopefully thread the action to accept the threaded tenon of the barrel and just do a new chamber.. that is the idea of it that we're thinking about..

This is slightly off topic and may show my ignorance but what about putting a barrel block on a premium barrel ahead of the receiver and bedding it in the stock and free floating everything behind and ahead of the block. This takes the stiffness of the receiver and the receiver barrel lockup out of the issue. You still need a great trigger, and obviously the quality of the barrel is much importante. Am I all wrong? If so remember I am not an expert.

I am waiting on a scope for my 10-22 and I am doing some pondering... I have a Kidd barrel in a factory OEM receiver. How much accuracy is there to gain in going from a stock, Ruger receiver to a higher-in receiver?

Thanks!

Andy

you can gain a lot with the right barrel a kidd barrel is what a $175 bucks will thats what you get a so so barrel
in order get get what you want you have to spend a little money right barrel ,stock, bolt , bedding , trigger ,tuner and you have to know how to put it together , when I put one of my guns together it takes me 40 hours
I would be glad to help just give me a call

I can attest to the fact that Joe builds a very accurate 10/22 benchrest rifle. When I started shooting ABRA benchrest a couple years back I started with a complete Kidd setup. It's definitely quaility components but I wasn't winning any matches. Changed to a Green Mountain barrel, same results not winning. Joe has and continues working hard on what does it take to make these rifles more accurate. Late last year he called me and wanted to install a Douglas barrel on my rifle that he was real happy with how it slugged etc.... Story short I've been winning matches regularly since then, both ABRA and IR 50/50. It's worth a call to Joe for he'll provide info and guidance as to what it takes to have a competitive 10/22 benchrest rifle.
