My friend just installed a KIDD aluminum tube and a Boyds laminated thumbhole stock. What a neat little rifle. Things I don't like about it are semi not a bolt, ejects against the wall, and the trigger pull is stiff. He likes it a lot. We shoot 50 feet standing and this rig shoots a lil hole off the bench at this distance. As good as my TC with a MGM tube can do. So for what / around $350 of bolt ons you can completely change your rifle.

Barrel first, trigger next. The last 2 10/22's I bought have a horrible bolt. Looks like they were cast in gravel. They can use a bedding job like every other rifle. I bout a Kidd trigger for mine and am happy with it.

Trigger. Then address bolt slop.

There is some good info on the rimfire forums, you can clean up those triggers pretty nicely. I was all set and hell bound to buy a trigger for mine, but after some polishing and stoning, they can actually be made into a pretty decent trigger. I just coudnt justify spending roughly twice as much on a 22 trigger than my bench gun triggers. If I was spending that kind of money, it would be for a bix and andy for one of them.

I suggest the hammer and sear kit from Kidd. I have the kit in one and the full trigger group in one. Can't tell them apart. The kit is significantly cheaper.
I'm with you on the expense part, tough pill to swallow.
